Game 5 between the Minnesota Timberwolves (3-1) and Denver Nuggets (1-3) is set for 10:30 p.m. Eastern on NBC. Donte DiVincenzo suffered a season-ending torn Achilles in Game 4, while ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Anthony Edwards “has sustained a bone bruise and hyperextension in his left knee and is expected to miss multiple weeks…Results showed Edwards avoided any ligament damage, but he will now miss time.” In other words, Edwards is out for the rest of this series.

Timberwolves vs. Nuggets Betting Analysis

After DiVincenzo and Edwards left the court injured, Minnesota needed someone to step up. Trade deadline acquisition Ayo Dosunmu answered the call, as he erupted for 43 points on 13-of-17 shooting from the field.

Rudy Gobert also had another masterful defensive performance against Nikola Jokić. The 4x Defensive Player of the Year is doing an excellent job of staying vertical and not jumping on pump fakes or overreacting to spin moves. He’s simply anchoring himself in front of Jokić and forcing the 3x MVP to make tough shots over his outstretched arms. Overall, Gobert is the main reason behind why Jokić has shot 34-of-87 (39%) from the field this series.

The Nuggets are also dealing with injuries. Peyton Watson has missed every game, and Aaron Gordon is hobbling through a calf injury. They are crucial to keeping Denver’s defense afloat, and the offense sneakily relies on Gordon’s rim pressure, connective passing, and timely three-point shooting. But under no circumstances should the Nuggets have lost Game 4 once DiVincenzo and Edwards were ruled out. They looked disinterested and did not match Minnesota’s intensity.

However, the series is not over, and Jokić and Murray have already orchestrated multiple 3-1 comebacks in their careers. If the Nuggets can take Game 5 at home, then it places an enormous amount of pressure on Minnesota, who will presumably be without Edwards, to end the series in Game 6.

The best bet is taking the Wolves to score a maximum of 106 points. Their offense is severely diminished without Edwards and DiVincenzo, and they no longer have the home crowd or spur of the moment emotions from the injuries to fuel them. It’s a classic let down spot before potentially winning the series in Game 6.
