Home Run Prop Predictions & Odds: MLB HR Best Bets for Thursday, October 8th
Cleveland’s season is on the brink. The Guardians trail 2-1 in the ALDS and need a win at Rate Field on Thursday night just to force a decisive Game 5, sending Parker Messick back to the mound opposite a White Sox bullpen game fronted by Hagen Smith. Both lineups have stayed relatively quiet on the power front through three games — Chicago’s 211 regular-season home runs dwarf Cleveland’s 162, but the two clubs have combined for next to nothing out of the yard so far this series. That’s a due bill that could come due tonight. Here are four hitters positioned to break the drought.
Munetaka Murakami Home Run Odds
Murakami led Chicago with 35 home runs during the regular season, and when over a third of your 94 hits go deep, that’s not a schedule-driven number — it’s a true power indicator. Since the All-Star break specifically, he’s barreled balls at a 20.7% clip against right-handers and 21.4% against lefties, which means Messick’s handedness advantage largely evaporates against him. He’s locked into the middle of Chicago’s order (hitting third) in a lineup built around his bat.
Jose Ramirez Home Run Odds
Ramirez is the one hitter both dugouts are actively game-planning around, and he’s carrying real momentum into tonight — two hits in Wednesday’s 9-3 Game 3 win, during which Cleveland’s lineup as a whole made Chicago’s pitching staff work (10 walks issued). As a switch-hitter, he has no platoon disadvantage regardless of who’s on the mound, and tonight’s bullpen-game format for Chicago (Smith opening, Fedde and Hicks following) means he’ll see at least two, probably three different arms rather than one starter settling in — more total looks, more chances to find one he can drive out.
Jo Adell Home Run Odds
Forget the regular season — what matters is how he’s squaring the ball up right now. Adell’s bases-clearing triple in Wednesday’s Game 3 win missed clearing the wall by a matter of feet, the kind of contact quality that tends to turn into a home run the next time around rather than fade. He’s locked into Cleveland’s DH spot, guaranteeing him four-plus at-bats, and he’s doing it against a White Sox staff stitching together innings on short rest rather than trotting out a rested, game-planned starter. In an elimination game, that’s exactly the combination — a hot bat facing a patchwork pitching plan — that produces a big swing.
Braden Montgomery Home Run Odds
Montgomery’s claim to this list is simple: he’s already proven he doesn’t need a premium lineup spot or a long leash to do real damage, having hit a walk-off home run in his MLB debut — a feat only a handful of players in history have managed. He’s currently in Chicago’s 8-hole, which is a quiet-looking spot on paper, but his bat speed and track record as the centerpiece return in the Garrett Crochet trade suggest he’s miscast as a bottom-of-the-order afterthought. In an elimination game with Cleveland pushing hard, a rookie with nothing to lose swinging without hesitation is exactly the profile that produces a surprise homer.
