Week 2 of the NFL season will be known as the week that eviscerated the quarterbacks. Some of the league’s top ascending quarterbacks, Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, and Jaxson Dart, all suffered a range of injuries that could effectively change the course of their team’s seasons.

Williams will return the fastest, maybe within a week or two, but Daniels and Dart could be on the shelf for a lot longer. All 32 NFL teams know that they won’t go an entire season injury-free, but losing your franchise quarterback is a major blow. Where each team goes from here will be revealed in the next few weeks. For now, who else shows up on the Week 3 injury report, and what’s their status heading into the weekend’s action?

Mike Evans (49ers vs. Cardinals): Probable

The San Francisco 49ers have been on a tear through the first two weeks of the season. Another blowout followed a surprising but impressive Week 1 win over the Los Angeles Rams, with a win over the Miami Dolphins in Week 2. The 49ers are second in EPA per play, per Sümer Sports, and the connection between Brock Purdy and his veteran receiver, Mike Evans, has been a pertinent part of their success. Evans (hip) has a 90% targeted success rate, catching 9-of-10 targets for 103 yards and a touchdown, and with so many injuries impacting the 49ers’ offense already, losing their main target getter while the offense is functioning so well would be a tough pill to swallow. Kyle Shanahan continues to evolve, but there is only so much you can take.

Blake Miller (Lions vs. Jets): Probable

The Detroit Lions are the perfect example of that thought in motion. They lost offensive line duo Blake Miller (knee) and Christian Mahogany (hip) before their Week 2 matchup against the Bills and paid the price, with the Bills’ defense pressuring Jared Goff on 45.4% of his dropbacks. The good news for Lions fans comes from the mouth of Dan Campbell, who said, “I feel pretty good that he’s trending the right way to be in there [this week]”. That comes as some real relief. Larry Borom struggled at right tackle against the Bills and was penalized three times. Miller might only be a rookie, but the Lions’ 2026 first-round pick has the opportunity to be a cornerstone piece of the offensive line.

Charvarius Ward (Colts vs. Texans): Probable

Things have been bleak for the Indianapolis Colts through two weeks. They’re 0-2 after tough losses to the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs, and the defense is dead last in EPA per play, per Sümer Sports. A minor bright spot has been the play of Charvarius Ward (groin), who has allowed just two catches on three targets in 53 coverage snaps. Ward was dealing with some groin tightness following the 33-30 overtime loss to the Chiefs, but the hope is that the former Chief and 49er has avoided anything serious and should be back in the lineup on Sunday against the Texans in what already feels like a must-win divisional matchup. The Colts don’t have a slew of options at cornerback. Nickelback Justin Walley has struggled in coverage, while veteran Cam Taylor-Britt hasn’t played much football recently. The Colts need all of the help they can get, and will be safer with Ward on the field.

Puka Nacua (Rams vs. Broncos): Questionable

Few players are more vital to their offense than Puka Nacua. The former fifth-round pick has been a key cog in the Rams’ functionality since he was drafted, and has formed a near-unstoppable connection with Matt Stafford. Nacua (groin) missed the Week 2 win over the Giants, and though the Rams were fine without him—Davante Adams caught eight passes for 195 yards and two touchdowns—having Nacua on the field is a big plus, especially against the Denver Broncos’ defense. Adams will likely be under Patrick Surtain’s watch for most of the game, but having Nacua in the lineup adds much more optionality. He can line up all over the offense and take away eyes from Adams—and vice versa. Right now, his status remains up in the air. The Rams are currently -2.5 favorites on the road against the Broncos. That could get boosted to potentially over a field goal if Nacua is ready to rock.

Ronnie Stanley (Ravens vs. Cowboys): Questionable

The Ravens offense has started the season well and is fourth in the league in EPA per play through two weeks. But something to keep an eye on is left tackle Ronnie Stanley (toe). The veteran entered Week 2 with an injury designation but started the game before exiting the game and not returning. Stanley didn’t practice on Wednesday and is currently facing an uphill battle to start against the Dallas Cowboys in an early blockbuster matchup. If Stanley is missing, 2025 fifth-round pick Carter Vinson would be expected to step up. Vinson allowed a single pressure in 13 pass-blocking snaps, per Sümer Sports, and though he could step up to challenge against a Cowboys defense that is pressuring quarterbacks at the 10th-lowest rate in the NFL, having your top tackle on the field takes away any uncertainties.

Sam Darnold (Seahawks vs. Commanders): Questionable

The Seahawks are reigning Super Bowl champions and 2-0 for a reason. They’ve shown off their defensive prowess and their offensive upside in the first two weeks of the season, but they’ve done so without Sam Darnold, their starting quarterback. Drew Lock stepped in for Darnold over the last two games and has been excellent. He’s third in EPA per play among quarterbacks, throwing four touchdowns and zero interceptions, and the offense has barely missed a beat without Darnold, in large part to Lock, but also because of new offensive coordinator Brian Fleury. At some point, though, Darnold will be needed. After all, he’s the quarterback that helped get the Seahawks to the Super Bowl, and his command of the offense is greater than Lock’s. Thankfully, that time is nearing too. Darnold is back in practice and could be ready to go against the Commanders on Sunday.

Caleb Williams (Bears vs. Eagles): Doubtful

It could have been so much worse for Chicago Bears fans when Caleb Williams (hamstring) went down holding his hamstring in the Week 2 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. That game alone caused enough stress, but losing Williams for a long period of time would have been a crucial blow to the Bears’ ambitions in 2026. Instead, Williams likely won’t be on the sideline for too long. It’s already confirmed that he’ll be out for the Week 3 Monday night matchup against the Eagles, though. That’s still a big loss. The Bears are currently 1-1, and falling to the Eagles on Monday could see them sink to the bottom of the NFC North standings. It’s still early in the season, but losing any sort of ground in the race for the division could be catastrophic.

Jayden Daniels (Commanders vs. Seahawks): Doubtful

While Williams is only out for a short time, the status of Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels (elbow) remains up in the air. The former first-round pick dislocated his elbow against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2 after suffering a similar injury in 2025. What we know, for now, is that Daniels is out indefinitely, meaning he’ll miss the Week 3 matchup against the Seahawks. That’s a shame, because Daniels was looking like a guy finding his feet again in the first half vs. Dallas, completing 11-of-17 passes for 96 yards and a touchdown while adding 69 rushing yards. The Commanders’ ship is in dire fear of sinking without Daniels. Marcus Mariota has proven to be semi-capable as a veteran option, but the Commanders’ roster isn’t in great shape as it is, and Mariota just doesn’t have the superstar upside that Daniels carries. The Week 3 roadblock is already tough enough as it is; the Commanders are +7.5-point home underdogs, but their season is on life support.

Nico Collins (Texans vs. Colts): Doubtful

Another team whose season is on life support is the 0-2 Houston Texans. Tough losses against the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals. The offense stood up in Week 1, but suffered in Week 2, scoring only six points. Part of that drop-off from Week 1 to Week 2 was the loss of star receiver Nico Collins (hamstring). Collins suffered a hamstring injury in the build-up to Week 2 and was a major miss on the field. He’s the Texans’ top receiving target and one of the league’s best downfield threats. Without him, the Texans struggled to create success in the passing game and had a 38.3% pass success rate against the Bengals. The receiving room is already banged up without the loss of Collins, who they’ve built the plane out of in recent seasons, but the Texans are heading towards another week without their star receiver.
