Nazem Kadri Anytime Goal Scorer

While it seemed like the Vegas Golden Knights were able to bottle up the Colorado Avalanche high powered offense, they toyed with the line of total collapse, losing in Expected Goals until the final five minutes of play. Even though he failed to score, Nazem Kadri had no issue with pressuring the Golden Knights net, generating 0.48 Expected Goals and five Shots on Goal in game one.

Heading into Friday night, expect Kadri to continue to attack the Golden Knights net at a high rate, taking advantage of a back line who has steadily stumbled down the board in Expected Goals Against in All Situations. Even with Carter Hart masking their struggles in coverage, negative regression looms large over the Knights goalie with the Avs versatility forcing him to make quick cuts between the pipes for the full duration of the contest.

Gabriel Landeskog Anytime Goal Scorer

When healthy, Gabriel Landeskog has played a key role in the Avs success on offense, averaging 0.28 Expected Goals and 2.20 Shots on Goal per game. With Landeskog giving the Avs front line another productive weapon at their disposal, their offense has been in a tier of their own, leading the league in Expected Goals For in All Situations and in 5-on-5 Play throughout the regular season.

With the Golden Knights forced to stretch out their back line, the width of Landeskog’s shooting lanes at multiple levels of the ice will widen, making it easier for the Avs forward to convert his shot attempts into Shots on Goal. Especially with Nathan MacKinnon pulling defensive attention away from him in their top line, creating more space in front of the net for Landeskog to exploit.

Mitch Marner Anytime Goal Scorer

Since the start of the playoffs, Mitch Marner has arguably been the most impactful player in the field, generating a total of 19 Points in 13 games in the form of 7 Goals and 12 Assists. His performance has played a major role in the Golden Knights run to the Western Conference Finals, leading an offense who resides in the top half of the board in Expected Goals For in All Situations.

With Cale Makar out with an injury, his loss of production was imminent in game one with Colorado’s back line giving up over 5.00 Expected Goals. While the Avs are currently struggling to shift their coverage across the ice, Marner will face minimal resistance in his efforts of blitzing through their back line, improving the quality of his Shots on Goal in front of the crease.
