Monday’s Anytime Goal Scorer Picks

  • Josh Doan
  • Tage Thompson
  • Nick Suzuki

Josh Doan Anytime Goal Scorer

Even in a dominant 8-3 win in game six, Josh Doan was rather conservative in his efforts of pressuring the Montreal Canadiens net, generating just two Shots on Goal in 16 minutes. While his performance looks underwhelming on paper, it is worth noting Doan was able to maximize on the quality of his Shots on Goal, finishing the contest with 0.70 Expected Goals.

Fortunately for Doan, he will have a great opportunity to convert his Shots on Goal into Goals by taking advantage of a back line who ranks in the bottom half of the board in Expected Goals Against in All Situations. Especially with Tage Thompson pulling defensive attention away from him, widening the width of his shooting lanes at multiple areas of the ice which will help Doan rifle off a heavier volume of Shots on Goal.

Tage Thompson Anytime Goal Scorer

Speaking of Thompson, the Sabres forward has been able to play at a very high level this season, entering the playoffs averaging 0.42 Expected Goals and 3.36 Shots on Goal per game. With the Sabres front line running through Thompson, they have turned into an efficient unit, ranking above league average in Expected Goals For in All Situations.

With the Canadiens back line incapable of staying in front of the puck per their poor marks in Expected Goals Against as previously mentioned, Thompson will be able to consistently pressure their net for the full duration of the contest, increasing his chances of scoring. With Thompson and Cole Caufield comfortably leading the field in Expected Goals, split a wager in half and place each piece on both players to score the first goal as well at the best available odds.

Nick Suzuki Anytime Goal Scorer

While Caufield commands defensive attention on a nightly basis, Nick Suzuki has been able to capitalize on the extra space his teammate provides by averaging 0.36 Expected Goals per game. Their combined production has helped turn the Canadiens front line into a formidable unit, leading a group who ranks in the top-10 in Expected Goals For in All Situations.

In a favorable matchup against the Sabres, Suzuki will continue to be in a great position to score by attacking a back line who ranks near the bottom of the board in Expected Goals Against From High Danger Shots. Even with Alex Lyon patrolling their net, Caufield’s aggression will force the Sabres goalie to scramble between the pipes, creating larger gaps on the outside for Suzuki to exploit in the form of a rebound or one timer.
