Kirill Marchenko (Maple Leafs vs. Islanders) Goal Odds
Even though Kirill Marchenko failed to score, it was still a successful debut for the former Columbus Blue Jackets forward, generating 0.60 Expected Goals and four Shots on Goal in 20 minutes of play.
Heading into Wednesday night’s contest against the New York Islanders, Marchenko will be able to build on his momentum by taking advantage of a back line who struggles to defend their net per their bottom five mark in Expected Goals Against in All Situations. While Ilya Sorokin is a formidable goaltender in his own right, Auston Matthews will force the Islanders goalie to shade his coverage towards him, creating a larger gap for Marchenko to attack in the form of a one timer or rebound opportunity.
Marchenko has also already carved out a role as one of the primary skaters in the Maple Leafs first Power Play unit, skating alongside Matthews, John Tavares, William Nylander, and Darren Raddysh. With positive regression looming large over Marchenko in 5-on-4 Situations, expect the Maple Leafs newly acquired forward to generate higher quality Shots on Goal and find the back of the net.
Porter Martone (Flyers vs. Penguins) Goal Odds
My favorite bet to win the Calder Trophy, Porter Martone showed how high his ceiling is in his brief appearances with the Philadelphia Flyers last season, generating 0.54 Expected Goals per game in nine outings.
While Philadelphia is thin up front, Martone gets the benefit of playing in the same line as Owen Tippett and Trevor Zegras, two productive scorers who help pull defensive attention away from the Flyers rookie. With extra space to exploit, Martone will have a clear path to the Pittsburgh Penguins net and beat Arturs Silovs who averaged over three Goals Against per game in his 2025-26 campaign.
When in the Power Play, the Flyers bump Tippett to the second line to help consistently apply pressure, increasing Martone’s usage rate in the top line. By generating a higher volume of Shots on Goal, Martone’s chances of scoring drastically increases, making him worth a wager to score in the Flyers season opener.
Artturi Lehkonen (Avalanche vs. Kings) Goal Odds
When healthy, Artturi Lehkonen is one of the most efficient scorers on the Colorado Avalanche roster, generating 0.38 Expected Goals and 2.19 Shots on Goal per game while playing in the same line as Nathan MacKinnon.
With the betting favorite for the Hart Trophy pulling defensive attention away from him, Lehkonen will be able to continue to pressure the net at a consistent rate, putting him in a favorable position to score. Whether it is Darcy Kuemper or Anton Forsberg getting the start in net for the Los Angeles Kings, either goalie will be forced to make quick cuts across the ice for the full duration of the contest due to the Avs versatility on offense, widening the width of Lehkonen’s shooting lanes.
When in the Power Play, Lehkonen is the engine that drives the second unit, leading the group in Expected Goals. Even if Lehkonen gets moved to the first unit, he will benefit from MacKinnon’s gravity with fewer bodies crowding the net, improving the quality of his Shots on Goal.
