Playoff places are on the line this weekend as the NWSL rolls into Week 23. Gotham FC has locked up its spot with a win last weekend over North Carolina Courage, with Jordynn Dudley scoring a brace — and with that final goal coming dramatically in stoppage time.

The Washington Spirit could join Gotham in the postseason when the weekend concludes, should certain dominoes fall their way, but there are also scenarios afoot leaving teams on the outside looking in with just weeks of the regular season to go.
Best Bets
Kansas City Current, +100 to Win vs. Denver Summit – Saturday, Sept. 26 at 12:30 p.m. ET
If Kansas City loses and Seattle wins this weekend, that puts the Reign ahead of the Current in the eighth and final playoff spot. With Denver only three points behind the Current, they’ll see an opportunity to pounce and be in the playoff mix in their inaugural season. But there’s a key number to keep in mind: 29, as in the length of the Current’s home unbeaten streak. And with Seattle playing Friday night, Current players will know if the pressure’s on. Look for the hosts to extend that to 30.
Washington Spirit, +230 Draw vs. Angel City FC – Saturday, Sept. 26 at 6:30 p.m. ET
The Spirit could lock up a playoff spot with a win over Angel City and some help from Boston and one of Utah or Denver. However, Angel City’s been on a bit of a heater of late, taking a five-match unbeaten streak into Audi Field, with two of those (including last week’s win over 10-woman Utah) wins by three goals. While Angel City’s unbeaten streak will hold and the Spirit’s lock on a playoff spot will have to wait, the Spirit will put up enough of a spirited fight to split the points.
Orlando Pride, +175 to Win vs. Bay FC – Sunday, Sept. 27 at 5:00 p.m. ET
Though it’s a tough cross-country trip for the Pride to make, expect them to be buoyed by Barbra Banda signing a long-term contract to stay in Orlando. Smarting for a recent 4-1 loss, look for the Pride to bounce back, and look for Bay FC, who got a home win against a flagging Racing Louisville last time out, to have a bit of a return to Earth.
Ashley Sanchez, +170 Over 0.5 Goals vs. Utah Royals – Sunday, Sept. 27 at 7:00 p.m. ET
The storyline’s right there waiting: Both teams are in contention to start the playoffs at home, and though the Courage are playing at altitude, the prolific Ashley Sanchez just needs one more goal to tie the NWSL season record with 20. While the outcome of this game is contingent on how the defenses will match up, it’s likely both teams will find at least a goal in this match (if not more), and Sanchez has been the best at it this season.
Though Sanchez scoring would make for a monumental moment, that long unbeaten streak the Current’s maintained at home looks to be the best bet.
