Philadelphia Flyers vs. Pittsburgh Penguins Game 5 Preview, Picks & Odds for Monday, April 27, 2026

Just when it looked like the Philadelphia Flyers were going to sweep Pittsburgh, the Penguins managed to fight back and secured the pivotal win in game four. Even though the Pens won, their performance did not give much conviction they can claw their way back out of their deficit, losing game four in Expected Goals 3.11-3.65.

With positive regression looming large over Philadelphia, expect the Flyers to continue to overwhelm them on both sides of the ice and finish out the series in game five. Especially if Arturs Silovs falls back down to reality, leaving the Penguins vulnerable to falling quickly behind on the scoreboard with no hope of being able to climb out of their hole.

Philadelphia Flyers vs. Pittsburgh Penguins Betting Analysis

It has been a turbulent past few weeks of play for the Flyers front line, a unit who ended the regular season ranked near dead last in Expected Goals For in All Situations. Since the start of the playoffs, the Flyers have been able to drastically elevate their level of play on offense, climbing into the top-4 with an average of 3.28 Expected Goals per game.

The emergence of Porter Martone has played a major role in their recent turnaround, averaging 0.54 Expected Goals and 3.56 Shots on Goal per game. With Martone pulling defensive attention towards him with his gravity, this has helped free up space in front of the net for his linemates to attack, improving the quality of their Shots on Goal.

To make matters worse for Pittsburgh, their regression on defense could not come at a worse time, dropping down to near dead last in Expected Goals Against in All Situations and in 5-on-5 Play. Their inability to stay in front of the puck makes it easier for the Flyers to attack their net, bringing in a higher amount of negative variance which lowers their chances of winning.

Even with Arturs Silvos playing at a high level, the Flyers newfound versatility will force him to scramble between the pipes, opening up larger gaps at multiple angles. His performance in game three could also be pegged as an anomaly when comparing it to his season long results, finishing his 2025-26 campaign averaging 3.07 Goals Against per game and a .888 Save Percentage.

With clear advantages on both sides of the ice, expect the Flyers to round back into dominant form and close out the series on Monday night. If you want to increase your risk on the Flyers, place a wager on them to cover their alternate puck line of -1.5.
