Portland Trail Blazers at Los Angeles Lakers 4/9/19: Starting Lineups, Matchup Preview, Betting Odds
Detroit Pistons vs. Milwaukee Bucks Preview
The Los Angeles Lakers host the Portland Trail Blazers tonight at Staples Center, in what will most likely be Luke Walton’s last game as Lakers head coach. Portland currently sits fourth in the Western Conference playoff standings with a 51-29 record, while the Lakers have a 37-44 record that won’t get them in the playoffs.
Portland has won 12 of their last 15 games and defeated a depleted Denver Nuggets team in a 115-108 home win on Sunday. Damian Lillard led the team with 30 points and five assists while Al-Farouq Aminu added 23 points with 11 rebounds. Enes Kanter also chipped in a double-double of 11 points with 13 rebounds.
Meanwhile, the Lakers have quietly been playing some of their best basketball in a while winning six of their last nine games. They’ll be hoping to cap off their season on a winning note after taking down the playoff-bound Jazz in a 113-109 home win on Sunday. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope led the team with 32 points and six assists while JaVale McGee added 22 points. Alex Caruso chipped in with 18 points and 11 assists.

Portland Trail Blazers Starting Lineup
With a win tonight, Portland could clinch home-court advantage in the first round. However, Portland can’t be feeling good about themselves after struggling at home against a Nuggets team that didn’t even have their three best players on the floor. Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray and Paul Millsap all sat out in an effort to rest up for the postseason. The team as a whole shot 32.1 percent from 3-pointer and turned the ball over 16 times. If not for nine missed free throw attempts, the Nuggets might have won the game.
Like a lot of Portland’s games this season, the Trail Blazers refused to go down despite injuries with Damian Lillard leading the way. Against Denver, rebounding made a key difference in Portland’s game flow. With Nurkic out tonight, Al-Farouq Aminu, Enes Kanter, and Zach Collins will have to continue to step up filling that gap. Second-chance points on offense will assist with momentum against this deceptively dangerous Lakers squad.
Los Angeles Lakers Starting Lineup
With an overall disappointing season, it’s nice that the Lakers were able to end the Utah Jazz’s seven-game winning streak. Especially without LeBron James, Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma or Josh Hart. Instead, we saw a mixed bag of random role players. After the game, Luke Walton said “I’m sure when you’re a team that is looking down the roster and looking who is playing for us, naturally you would let down a little bit. That’s part of why this is fun,”
Unfortunately for Walton, it looks like the last bit of fun he will be having at Staples Center. While the Lakers struggled from 3-pointer without their primary shooters, they were able to take advantage inside the arc with a 51.0 field goal shooting percentage. They were also plus-16 on the boards thanks to the feisty presence of Jemerrio Jones down low.
Portland Trail Blazers at Los Angeles Lakers Betting Odds
The Trail Blazers are 9.5-point favorites to win tonight’s game, Portland is dead even at 20-20 this year on the road and 40-10 when favored. The Lakers are 22-18 at Staples this season and are 12-24 as underdogs.
The over/under is 224.5 points and Portland is -500 on the money-line.
