Should You Bet on the Philadelphia Flyers to win the 2026 Stanley Cup?

After going 7-3-0 in their last ten games, the Philadelphia Flyers have been able to make their return to the playoffs, snapping a five year skid. Even with their offense struggling to pressure the net, their high level of play on defense helped keep the score close enough for them to be competitive, stringing together enough wins to secure one of the three automatic qualifying spots in the Metropolitan.

Philadelphia Flyers to Win Eastern Conference?

If the Flyers are going to win the Eastern Conference Championship, then their defense will need to continue to play at a high level in order to make a run. Their back line has arguably been one of the best units in the league, ranking in the top-3 in Expected Goals Against in All Situations and in 5-on-5 Play.

With their back line consistently lessening the quality of opposing Shots on Goal, Dan Vlader has been able to put together a dominant performance this season, averaging just 2.42 Goals Against per game and a .906 Save Percentage. With Vlader protecting their net, the Flyers were able to drastically reduce the amount of variance in their contests, increasing their chances of winning.

Their production on defense has been vital to their success as it helped mask their inefficiencies on offense, covering a front line who ranks near the bottom of the board in Expected Goals For. Their lack of depth made it hard for them to create enough space for their forwards to exploit, fielding just four players who average more than 0.25 Expected Goals per game.

Unfortunately for the Flyers, their struggles on offense holds them back from being a well rounded contender, making them prone to an early exit in this year’s playoffs. Especially with Philadelphia locked into a first round series against Pittsburgh, facing off against a Penguins club who excels on both sides of the ice, ranking in the top-15 in Expected Goals For and in Expected Goals Against in All Situations.

If the Flyers are able to skate past the Penguins, then their quality of opponent will ramp up, most likely battling it out against the Carolina Hurricanes who currently lead the league in Expected Goals For. With the Flyers forced to go through a gauntlet, pass on them at their current odds to win the Eastern Conference Championship.

Philadelphia Flyers to Win Stanley Cup?

Like their chances of winning the East, the Flyers would also need the bracket to break their way just to compete in the Stanley Cup Finals, making it vital they avoid playing the Colorado Avalanche. With the Avs firing on all cylinders on both sides of the ice, they would overwhelm the Flyers, forcing their back line to stretch out just in an attempt to slow them down which would create wider shooting lanes in front of their net.

With Scott Wedgewood and MacKenzie Blackwood both ranking in the top-10 in average Goals Against per game, the Avs can rotate the two throughout the playoffs to help preserve their legs for the later rounds. This will help them brush aside regression when wear and tear starts to rear its ugly head, making it easier for them to sustain their high level of play in the finals.

Speaking of wear and tear, any drop off in production from Vlader would be a massive issue for the Flyers, forcing them to play in a highly volatile contest which will result in them falling quickly behind on the scoreboard with no hope of erasing the deficit. Samuel Ersson has shown he is incapable of carrying the mantle while Vlader needs the night off, averaging 3.15 Goals Against per game.

Even if the Flyers are able to avoid playing the Avs in the finals, their lack of production will make it hard for them to win a seven game series, especially if they face off against the Vegas Golden Knights or Dallas Stars who also excel on both sides of the ice. With no clear path for success against the top contenders in the West, pass on the Flyers at their current odds to win the Stanley Cup.

Should the bracket break their way and they draw the likes of Edmonton or Anaheim, then consider betting their series moneyline as both contenders’ lack of production on defense will even the playing field to the benefit of the Flyers. With Philadelphia projected to be an underdog, you can hedge your bet if they get out to a lead, securing a profit no matter who wins the series.

Any Philadelphia Flyers Players to Win Conn Smythe?

Even though the Flyers have underwhelmed on offense, there are still a few names worth laying a wager on, including Owen Tippet who currently leads the team in total Goals. Tippet has been a steady source of production for the Flyers front line, averaging 0.34 Expected Goals and 2.73 Shots on Goal per game.

Speaking of Expected Goals, Trevor Zegras has been able to thrive in his first year with the Flyers, averaging 0.26 Expected Goals per game. Zegras has also been just as productive in his efforts of facilitating, leading the team in Assists.

To round out the portfolio, place a bet on Vlader to win the Conn Smythe as his play in net will make or break the Flyers chances of making a run to the Stanley Cup. If you believe the Flyers will win it all, then place a 0.5 unit on Vlader to win the award and 0.25 units on Tippet and Zegras.
