The WTA picks back up with two events this week, following the U.S. Open major tournament, with the Guadalajara Open and the SP Open. Let’s go through each event’s odds, information, draw and bracket analysis backed with picks.

Quarter 1
Top dog Marta Kostyuk sits in Quarter 1 as the No. 1 seed this year, and a standout to lift the title this week. She gets the first round bye but will face an immediate threat in Taylor Townsend (assuming she passes Tatjana Maria in Round 1). Depending on the form of No. 8 seed Liudmila Samsonova, Kostyuk just needs to get past her first opponent in Guadalajara for a smooth path to the quarterfinals – and quite frankly, the semifinals or further. Her hypothetical match vs Townsend will determine our conviction in her moving forward but if she can get past her, then there’s no reason with the elite level of play displayed from Kostyuk this season why she shouldn’t reach the semifinals at minimum.
Quarter 2
So Quarter 2 does pose a threat to Kostyuk winning the event, assuming she wins Quarter 1. No. 4 seed Diane Parry is playing the best tennis of her career right now, earning a bye and getting the winner of Peyton Stearns and Emiliana Arango. There are two legit dark horses to watch in Quarter 2, otherwise it should be Parry advancing but the dark horses are live. The first is Sloane Stephens, also playing some of her best tennis in years and entering Mexico with tons of confidence. The other is Darja Vidmanova who has quietly played great tennis since the season returned to hard courts. While Parry is playing great tennis, her consistency has yet to be proven while the underdogs mentioned here have great value worth considering. Either way, the question remains, can any of them beat Kostyuk should the No. 1 seed reach the semis?
Quarter 3
Sara Bejlek enters as the No. 3 seed, given the first round bye and nestled at the bottom of Quarter 3 to await the winner of Alycia Parks and Varvara Lepchenko. Parks is a beast in Mexico, so looking at potential longshot plays definitely circle her. Bejlek is a legit threat on hard courts, shown in her Cincinnati run and upset win over Sabalenka. Above her lies Cristina Bucsa, who is a bit streaky to back for a whole week while also facing Bianca Andreescu. Panna Udvardy and Lois Boisson also aren’t the best hard court players, so it’s fair to assume the winner of Quarter 3 comes from the bottom. We’ll circle Bejlek and Parks in that order.
Quarter 4
Defending champion Iva Jovic lies at the bottom of the draw, holding down the basement of the Guadalajara brackets as the No. 2 seed. She has a great path to reach the finals again, but is more than likely going to have to get by her best friend Zeynep Sonmez. She is becoming a bit of a mercenary for her friends in tournaments, but above the pair lies Magdalena Frech and Renata Zarazua – both capable of going on runs but not enough to back with a name like Jovic standing out in the quarter. There are also currently three qualifiers listed here, so if you don’t want to get behind Jovic for another title run then perhaps wait and see if there’s a qualifier you like placed in Quarter 4. Otherwise, there’s no excuse for Jovic to not reach the semifinals here.

Quarter 1
Leylah Fernandez is the No. 1 seed in Brazil, and a clear standout in Quarter 1. When looking through the draw, there isn’t a name that should upset her, so she has no excuse not to reach the finals. The winner of the Leolia Jeanjean vs. Kaitlin Quevedo match isn’t a bad look outside the favorite Fernandez, but that’s a far stretch to bet against what should be the layup pick to reach the finals in Sao Paulo.
Quarter 2
While we just hyped Fernandez in Quarter 1, it’s tough to see anyone win the entire tournament out of Quarter 2. However, someone must advance into the semifinals and quite frankly, Elina Avanesyan has been quietly playing solid tennis and is the only name that stands out in this part of the draw. With that said, this is a toss up and if there’s a name you like then take it, but Avanesyan’s form on the hard courts lately hasn’t gone unnoticed and was gaining momentum until qualifiers in New York. Anna Blinkova and Alina Charaeva are the seeded players here, and not bad looks but Quarter 2 presents a great longshot opportunity to test in an event where the heavy favorite (Fernandez) should dominate. Avanesyan is the only name we see worth longshot value.
Quarter 3
Solana Sierra is the No. 3 seed and at the bottom of Quarter 3, a simple path pending the qualifier they stick on her in Round 1. Above Sierra, though, are some real contenders that must go through a gauntlet. Eva Lys is the No. 5 seed and seemingly improving despite battling injuries all season long. While she should advance into Round 2, things will get tough with the winner of Lucrezia Stefanini and Nadia Podoroska await. While Lys would again be the take here, either player can easily go on a run, and so be cautious. While Lys, if clicking, has a great chance to go on a run with the path set up in front of her – she has struggled to find consistency where Sierra or the other two mentioned could easily take advantage.
Quarter 4
It’s exciting to see what No. 2 seed Paula Badosa can do here, playing great tennis lately and seemingly building more momentum both into her form and confidence. Looking at the draw, she will have an early test against Darja Semenistaja, but the real challenge in Quarter 4 is at the top with Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, Claire Liu and Dominika Salkova. Oh yeah, let’s not forget the younger American Mary Stoiana who has burst onto the scene in recent months. If Paula can get past Round 1, she should find herself in the quarters against a coin flip of dark horse contenders to not only win the quarter, but reach the finals.
