FanDuel Massachusetts Update

FanDuel Sportsbook App LogoGovernor Charlie Barker and the Massachusetts state legislature officially signed sports betting into law on August 10, 2022. As per Bill H.5164, all wagering options offered in other states will be offered in Massachusetts with the exception of in state college sports. As of right now, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) has allowed for as many as 15 online sportsbooks and 5 retail sportsbooks to be ready to go come launch day. FanDuel was approved to operate in the state on January 9th, 2023. The official launch date for Massachusetts sports betting is still TBD, though it is expected to happen sometime around the Super Bowl.

The state of Massachusetts will be imposing a 20% tax on these mobile operators and a 15% tax on retail sportsbooks. Credit Cards, which are generally discouraged as a deposit method anyway, are currently banned as a means to add money to your FanDuel MA account, the Debit Cards are perfectly fine. The potential tax revenue is not something that has been disclosed however with some of sports’ most iconic teams like the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, and New England Patriots in that neck of the woods, success is almost sure-fire.

Once sports betting launches within the state of Massachusetts, FanDuel Massachusetts will likely offer new users some variation of a “Bet & Get” deal or a No Sweat First Bet. Bet & Get deals allow new users to place a small first time wager (usually $5 or less) and receive up-to hundreds of dollars in bonus bets (usually either $150 or $200). The “No Sweat First Bet” offer is a first bet up-to $1,000 that is refunded in site credit if it does not win.

FanDuel Massachusetts Mobile App Guide

As the most popular sportsbook app in the US, FanDuel has long been hailed for its easy-to-navigate user interface and seamless deposit/withdrawal system.

One of the keys to their user interface is the top navigation menu. In this menu, individuals will find categories such as “Live Now”, “Promos”, and “Boosts”, along with a list of the most popular sports and leagues that FanDuel provides odds for. These leagues include the NBA, NFL, Horse Racing, and more.

At the bottom of the home screen, users will find the following tabs: “home”, “all sports”, “my bets”, “refer”, and “account”. The “all sports” tab redirects users to a full list of the sports that FanDuel provides odds for — everything from Darts to Cricket to Turkish basketball. The “My Bets” tab, meanwhile, provides a comprehensive list of all the wagers one has placed on FanDuel. Individuals will be able to sort their bets by which ones have won and lost while also being able to view which ones are open. The “account” tab is where individuals are able to see key information such as activity statements (i.e., how much has been wagered on an account) and tax statements.

Top 3 Features We Love: FanDuel Sportsbook

1

Cash Out

While FanDuel is not the only sportsbook to offer a cash out feature, they are certainly one of the more liberal sportsbooks when it comes to allowing individuals to cash out. A “cash-out” is when you are given the option to have your bet bought out, usually for more than what you paid for the bet. If you have a $10 parlay on 3 “Anytime TD Scorers” that would pay out $400, and 2 of your first 3 legs hit, for example, FanDuel will likely offer you a cash out opportunity for well over $10 on that bet.

2

App

One big advantage that the FanDuel app has over some other sportsbooks is that it has an app for both Android and iOS systems. This means that both Apple and Android users can download a mobile app and use it to register, claim promotions, place bets, and more.

3

Player Props

FanDuel has a wide array of bet types, with one of my favorite being player props. The benefit of this is if you want to bet on a game but don’t like the spread or money line, then there are other options to quench your betting thirst. A player prop is a bet that revolves around how well or not a particular player performs. An example of this would be betting on whether Tom Brady will throw more or less than three touchdowns in a game.

Massachusetts Legal History

Massachusetts has worked tirelessly on legalizing sports betting in the state. There have been several bills shot down throughout the last three years and a minimum of 23 sports betting bills in the two state’s legislative chambers as of April 2021.

But now, things are finally looking for a launch in the near future as the only thing standing between sports betting in Massachusetts is Gov. Baker’s signature, which is more than expected to come, as he has expressed his support for sports betting in the past. Now it’s just a waiting game to get things up and running which is loosely expected to come to fruition in the tail end of the 2022-23 NFL season.

FanDuel Massachusetts Review

Name: FanDuel Massachusetts

Description: FanDuel was founded on July 21, 2009, and is headquartered in New York City. Its founders were Lesley Eccles, Nigel Eccles, Chris Stafford, Rob Jones, and Tom Griffiths. FanDuel underwent a merger in July of 2018 with Paddy Power Betfair shortly after the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 was deemed unconstitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court. FanDuel’s origins are pretty interesting, as it initially started as a site for news predictions and eventually segued into becoming a sportsbook. FanDuel’s presence exponentiated in the states once sports betting became legalized in America, and it is now one of the biggest sportsbooks in the world.

Summary

FanDuel has a solid foundation, a great brand, and consequently, is very reliable. It has plenty of sports available to bet on and many different bet types you can place. The banking options for Fanduel are solid and representative of a company with its stature. There are a few areas that FanDuel could improve on, but it’s only a few. First, its markets are minimal, but so are many sportsbooks in the states. In terms of contacting customer service, it does not have phone support, which can be negative for users who rely on talking over the phone. Altogether, FanDuel is a great sportsbook and should be highly considered by potential users.
