Trail Blazers vs. Spurs 2026 NBA Playoffs Series Preview, Picks, Odds
The No. 7-seeded Trail Blazers have gotten a few valuable days off after toppling the Suns for the No. 7 seed on Tuesday, but they have a tall first-round order in front of them in the form of the No. 2-seeded Spurs, who’ve been able to get Victor Wembanyama some valuable rest for his rib injury over the last week.
Trail Blazers vs. Spurs Series Betting Analysis
The Trail Blazers’ season was nothing if not eventful, beginning with the suspension of head coach Chauncey Billups due to gambling-related charges following the team’s season opener. Interim head coach Tiago Splitter would go on to help galvanize Portland’s mix of veterans and younger, ascending players, with the Blazers finishing the regular season 42-40 after managing just a 36-46 mark a year ago.
Jrue Holiday proved to be a key veteran addition and embraced a level of offensive opportunity he didn’t enjoy with the Celtics’ star-studded first unit, averaging 16.3 points per contest. Meanwhile, Deni Avdija blossomed into a legitimate superstar with a career-high 24.2 points and 6.7 assists among his contributions, while second-year big Donovan Clingan became a force to contend with by averaging 12.1 points and 11.6 rebounds, both easily career highs.
The Spurs were one of the elite clubs in either conference, and they would have been the class of the West had it not been for the Thunder’s 64-win season. San Antonio was nipping on the defending champion’s heels with a 62-20 record, which was partly comprised by a dominant 29-12 mark on the road that could pay big dividends in tough postseason environments.
Wembanyama set new career highs in points (25.0) and rebounds (11.5), remaining free of any carryover of the blood clot in his shoulder that had ended his previous campaign early. Meanwhile, De’Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle formed one of the most versatile backcourts in the league, and San Antonio notably finished in the top 10 in both points per game (119.7) and points per game allowed (111.7).
The Spurs prevailed in the regular-season series by a 2-1 margin. Portland’s one win did come in San Antonio, a 115-110 victory on Jan. 3, while the Spurs notched 13- and 11-point victories at Moda Center and Frost Bank Center, respectively.
The Trail Blazers head into the series without any injuries, while the Spurs expect to have Wembanyama back without restrictions. Luke Kornet, who missed the regular-season finale with shoulder soreness, should also be available.
The Blazers are 25-21 ATS as an underdog since the start of the regular season, while the Spurs were 33-29-2 as a favorite curing the regular season.
