Arkansas State Red Wolves Roster 2019 Red Wolves Roster

Head Coach: Blake Anderson        2017 Salary: $750,000        Offensive Coordinator: Buster Faulkner       Defensive Coordinator: Joe Cauthen

Stadium: Centennial Bank Stadium       Surface: Turf        City: Jonesboro        State: Arkansas

Arkansas State has become known as a breeding ground for coaches moving on to greener pastures. Three coaches have bolted Jonesboro for new jobs in this decade. However, head coach Blake Anderson has remained at the school for four years, leading the Red Wolves to the upper echelon of the Sun Belt Conference.

In 2018, the Red Wolves once more appear to be loaded with talent and are poised to battle Appalachian State for top honors in the conference. However, the previous version of the Red Wolves had met the enemy and it was them. Arkansas State repeatedly dropped close games, finding new and inventive ways to lose football games late. Ugly late game mistakes and turnovers have kept this team from reaching its potential.

The Red Wolves figure to present matchup nightmares for opposing defensive backs, featuring a deep and big receiving corps. The Red Wolves’ wide receivers look more like a front line for the school’s basketball team ranging from 6”3” to 6’6” and they have the right quarterback to reach them. Justice Hansen returns one more time to lead the top-ranked passing attack in the conference after having set school records for both yardage and passing touchdowns.

Defense is where the Red Wolves may struggle this season. Arkansas State has large losses on this side of the ball to fill and there are not necessarily any clear solutions to the personnel deficits on defense. The defensive backfield in particular lacks experience and depth and makes the Red Wolves vulnerable to the big play this season. Arkansas State figures to light up the scoreboard this season, both on the offensive side of the ball and by yielding points. There will be no lack of excitement this season in Jonesboro. Whether the excitement leads to a Sun Belt title depends on avoiding the mistakes of last year.
