FIBA Women’s World Cup group play wrapped up in Berlin on Monday with Spain, France, Belgium and the USA winning their groups outright to advance straight to the quarterfinals. Turkey, Nigeria, Czechia and Mali finished last in their groups and were eliminated. The remaining eight teams now play win-or-go-home qualification to quarterfinals games this week.

The USA closed group play at 3-0, blowing past Czechia behind a balanced offense with five players in double figures. Breanna Stewart had 19 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists, Angel Reese added 13 points and 6 rebounds. Napheesa Collier and Jackie Young each scored 12 and Collier pulled down 6 rebounds.
The Americans finished with 32 team assists and shot 53% from the field, a huge improvement from 28.6% during their close call with Italy on Sunday. Eliska Joklova led Czechia with 19 points on 11-of-14 free throw shooting, but the Czechs never got closer than 10 points after the first quarter and finish the tournament 0-3.
China beat Italy 71-51, jumping ahead 23-7 in the first quarter and never trailing. Han Xu had 19 points and 10 rebounds, and Yang Shuyu added 15. Matilde Villa led Italy with 15 points, and Cecilia Zandalasini scored 12, but Italy shot just 2-of-17 from three. The result gives China second place in Group D at 2-1 and drops Italy to third at 1-2; both advance to qualification games, while USA takes the group and Czechia is out.
France routed Nigeria 111-56 to finish group play 3-0. Gabby Williams scored 25 points on 8-of-12 shooting in only 18 minutes, hitting 6 of 8 threes, and Janelle Salaün added 19. France led by as many as 61 in the contest. Grace Efosa-Aguebor scored 15 for Nigeria, which finishes 0-3 to be eliminated.
Hungary held off Korea 82-73 to finish second in Group B at 2-1. Dorka Juhász had 22 points and 11 rebounds, and Virág Takács-Kiss added 14 points and 8 rebounds. Jihyun Park scored 21 for Korea and her team finish third and move on to a qualification game.
Belgium beat Australia 80-68 to finish group play unbeaten and five Cats scored in double figures. Emma Meesseman had a near triple-double with 22 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists, and Kyara Linskens added a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double. Ezi Magbegor led Australia with 15 points plus 7 rebounds.
Puerto Rico eliminated Turkey 75-71 in the other Group C game, rallying from an 8-point deficit behind Arella Guirantes’ 21 points and a 16-point, 14-rebound game from Imani McGee-Stafford. Sevgi Uzun scored 18 for Turkey, which finishes 0-3. Belgium wins the group, Australia takes second at 2-1, and Puerto Rico grabs third at 1-2.
Spain beat Japan 79-59 to win Group A on tiebreaker over Germany. Both teams finished 2-1, but Spain’s opening-night win over the Germans settled the standings. Iyana Martin scored 20 points and Awa Fam added a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double for Spain. Kokoro Tanaka led Japan with 15.
Germany closed group play with an 83-58 win over Mali, getting 21 points from Frieda Buhner and 17 from Luisa Geiselsoder in front of a sellout crowd at Berlin Arena. Germany finishes second in Group A at 2-1, Japan third at 1-2, and Mali is eliminated at 1-2 on the head-to-head tiebreaker.
With the group phase complete, Spain, France, Belgium and the USA are through to the quarterfinals. The second- and third-place teams cross over between Groups A/B and Groups C/D in single-elimination qualification games this week, with the winners joining the group champions in the quarterfinals.
