Best Bet: SND O2.5 (-120)

Best Bet: SND ML (+178) at DraftKings

Score Prediction: Padres 4, Brewers 2

The Pick: Padres 4, Brewers 2

We’ll take the Padres run total going Over based on a large data point when they face the NL, along with an underdog outright based on a few different betting trends.

Game Betting Analysis

We’re going off script a bit for this one, with the Padres run total set at 2.5 at -120 to go Over. We’ll take that with an insane data point to back, as San Diego has scored three or more runs in a remarkable 24 of 25 games against the NL. This is also a game to possibly test the underdog with winning, as San Diego has won three straight games against the Brew Crew along with seven of the last 10 head-to-heads. Milwaukee has also lost outright in a queitly concerning nine straight playoff games when facing NL West clubs.

Deciding Factor: Jacob Misiorowski’s Cy Young Season vs. Padres’ Red-Hot Pitching Staff

Milwaukee finished 85-52, the best record of any division winner in baseball, and Jacob Misiorowski is the headline reason why. The right-hander went 16-5 with a 1.80 ERA and 252 strikeouts over 174.2 innings, averaging a ridiculous 100.6 mph on his fastball with a 37.6% strikeout rate, both of which rank in the 100th percentile league-wide. He’s already seen this Padres lineup up close too, throwing 7 shutout innings with 10 strikeouts against San Diego back in May, a start Milwaukee somehow lost 3-1. Add in the Brewers’ 47-25 home record at American Family Field, and Misiorowski gives Milwaukee a chance to steal Game 1 even if the offense goes cold again.

San Diego arrives having just authored one of the more dominant pitching stretches of October, sweeping the Cubs’ league-best offense in the Wild Card round while allowing just one run across 18 innings. Michael King was nearly unhittable in the opener, Joe Musgrove returned from injury to deliver, and Gavin Sheets, playing through a plantar plate tear, provided the signature moment with a pinch-hit homer off a 100.8 mph fastball. That kind of pitching momentum is real, but it now runs into the one arm in baseball that’s already proven it can shut this exact Padres lineup down, raising the question of whether San Diego’s own staff can match Misiorowski blow for blow on the road.
