Suns vs. Thunder 2026 NBA Playoffs Series Preview, Picks, Odds
Fresh off their Friday night victory over the Warriors for the No. 8 seed, the Suns now tangle with the Western Conference’s top seed and defending champions to open the playoffs. Phoenix will hope to get big man Mark Williams back on the floor after Friday’s absence due to a foot injury, while OKC is refreshed and healthy as the postseason portion of their title defense begins.
Suns vs. Thunder Series Betting Analysis
Considering they jettisoned Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal last offseason, the Suns did well to churn out a 45-37 regular-season record and then overcome a surprising Play-In Tournament loss to the Trail Blazers by knocking off the Warriors for the No. 8 seed. With KD off the roster, Devin Booker went back to being an unquestioned No. 1 option, and the veteran superstar responded with averages of 26.1 points, 6.0 assists and 3.9 rebounds per contest. Then, despite hamstring issues that helped limit him to just 32 games, Jalen Green, the primary return in the trade of Durant to the Rockets, proved capable of some eye-popping numbers at times and heads into this first-round series fresh off two such performances — he poured in 35 and 36 points against the Blazers and Warriors, respectively, in the two Play-In Tournament clashes.
The Thunder mostly looked very comfortable as defending champions and in often having to take their opponent’s best shot. OKC did see a four-win decline from last season, but that still resulted in a 64-18 record and another No. 1 seed in the Western Conference. As many successful championship squads do, the Thunder kept its core together and reaped the rewards, as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Luguentz Dort, Jalen Williams, Chet Holmgren and Isaiah Hartenstein once again comprised one of the most efficient and well-rounded starting fives in the league. Williams notably was limited to 33 games due to injury, but like his Suns counterpart Green, he contributed when on the floor with a well-rounded line of 17.1 points, a career-high 5.5 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 1.2 steals per contest.
The two teams met five times in the regular season, with the Thunder winning three of those games. OKC notably scored 123, 136 and 138 points in its three wins, two which came at home and two which were by 49- and 27-point margins. Meanwhile, Phoenix managed a three-point win in OKC and before a 32-point rout on the final day of the regular season against a Thunder team that played its reserves.
Other than Williams, the Suns are not dealing with any injuries of note. The Thunder are currently listing big men Chet Holmgren and Jaylin Williams as questionable for Game 1 due to back and Achilles injuries.
The Suns are 24-19 ATS as an underdog since the start of the regular season, while the Thunder sported a 37-41 mark against the number as a favorite.
