2026 WTA Athens Open Bracket Analysis
Quarter 1
Clara Tauson looks to get her 2026 season back on track, entering Athens as the No. 1 seed with a favorable draw in front of her to take advantage of. Her Round 1 opponent against Nao Hibino might be her most difficult challenge until the quarterfinals where she would potentially meet either Lilli Tagger or Sara Bejlek. While both Tagger and Bejlek are legit threats to take the quarter, both are far from their early season form which was the highlight of their 2026 success. Tauson has everything in place to build confidence and consistent matches here, but whether she can execute yet is still a mystery.
Quarter 2
Quarter 2 also features a player looking to get back on track in Qinwen Zheng, but has a much more difficult draw than Tauson with a Round 1 match against Jessica Bouzas Maneiro. The winner of that match should be a lock for the quarterfinal where they will likely meet the No. 3 seed in Barbora Krejcikova. Following grass court season, it seems the only thing that will hold back Krejcikova is something that we are unfortunately too familiar with – an injury. If Barbs is healthy all week, she should be the pick to win Quarter 2 otherwise circle the winner of Zheng vs. Bouzas Manerio instead.
Quarter 3
On paper, Maria Sakkari is the stand out name in Quarter 3 but her consistently is shaky to bet on lately. With that said, her draw is set up nicely to make a quarterfinal appearance despite tough opponents in her way such as Polina Kudermetova and Harriet Dart. Above Sakkari is where the real threats lie, beginning with Magda Linette and ending with Alycia Parks.
Quarter 3 is completely dictated by the form of Sakkari, playing in her home country and the likely crowd favorite all week. With Sakkari very inconsistent this season, her form dictating Quarter 3 makes this a very chaotic wagering section of bracket. However, none of the other names really jump out as dark horses to watch so feel free to take Sakkari but have your eyes peeled for anyone that impresses you following Round 1.
Quarter 4
Quarter 4 should be fun, starting with No. 2 seed Ann Li taking on Maria Timofeeva in Round 1. Li’s clay court season was one of the best on tour this season, but her grass court season didn’t mirror that success. Vice versa for Timofeeva who just started finding her ‘main draw’ form over the last few weeks. This Round 1 match is a huge measuring stick for both player’s current form, so although the odds are with Li keep Timofeeva in your back pocket as a legit dark horse should she upset Li in Round 1.
Looking at the top of the quarter, Tereza Valentova is the name to watch here. However, she (much like other players already discussed) is also trying to get her 2026 season back on track. While she should manage Round 1, her Round 2 opponent could cause issues if Aliaksandra Sasnovich gets hot. So while Valentova and Li should meet for the Quarter 4 crown, there is ample room for upsets from both Timofeeva and Sasnovich in this part of the bracket.
Tournament Pick: Barbora Krejcikova
Sleeper Pick: Magda Linette

2026 WTA Iasi Open Bracket Analysis
Quarter 1
Jaqueline Cristian is the top dog in her home country, the No. 1 seed in Iasi with a nice draw in front her that sets up a potential all-Romanian meeting against Gabriela Ruse in the quarterfinals. Looking at Quarter 1, it should be between both of these ladies as the futures market odds indicates this as well – both women top five odds to win the entire event depending on which book you look at. Dalma Galfi provides the best value for dark horse picks, but it would be a surprise to see a non-Romanian player win Quarter 1.
Quarter 2
Quarter 2 presents a great opportunity for Yulia Putintseva, not seeded in this event but given a favorable draw to potential take advantage of. Elsa Jacquemot is the No. 6 seed in Iasi, given a qualifier in Round 1 before potentially facing Poots in Round 2. Oleksandra Oliynykova is the No. 3 seed and the top name in Quarter 2, given a solid draw to get through. While the draw and talent of the young Ukrainian is enough to get behind, the conviction she gets through and wins a tournament isn’t quite there yet.
It will happen, and could be here so if you want to wager on her then go for it. However, the conviction for us lies with experience in some situations, so we’ll lean towards Putintseva a bit more. The futures market surprisingly has better value on Oliynykova, though, so feel free to grab a ticket on both as one of the the two should win Quarter 2. Although we prefer Poots of the two, Oliynykova has the better value and path to reach the semifinals.
Quarter 3
The top two favorites to win the tournament face off in Round 1 of Quarter 3, what are the odds? Paula Badosa faces Anhelina Kalinina, where the winner will catapult into the sole favorite position to win Iasi. This feels eerily similar to when we saw Fritz-Draper in Round 1 of Wimbledon. So feel free to wager this match before diving into the futures market, as this is truly a toss up where the winner should be your pick to win Quarter 3.
From there, it’s tough to see anyone else come out of Quarter 3. Panna Udvardy did have one of her best seasons on clay court this year, so keep an eye on her in terms of Quarter 3 dark horses. Katarzyna Kawa also faces Simona Waltert where the winner can cause problems in the draw.
Quarter 4
Quarter 4 is going to be a bloodbath, beginning with No. 2 seed Petra Marcinko taking on Nadia Podoroska. While Marcinko should win this match, and the quarter, it won’t be easy. Emiliana Arango, who loves clay courts, lies in the top part of Quarter 4 and has shown progressions in form lately. Also, the winner of Anna Bondar vs. Sara Sorribes Tormo in Round 1 can win the quarter as well.
There are too many variables in Quarter 4 so while it’s unlikely we select a tournament winner from this part of the draw, Marcinko should be the name you take and hold your breathe on. Dark horses include literally every other name mentioned.
