After last season’s success, the Seahawks are now being pegged as an intriguing longshot to make a run at the Super Bowl. All the signs are pointing in the right direction for the franchise as they have stability at quarterback and have stacked multiple strong draft classes on top of one another. This year featured the addition of first rounder Devon Witherspoon, a tremendous cornerback out of Illinois.

Last year, the Seahawks drafted offensive tackles Charles Cross and Abraham Lucas, running back Kenneth Walker, and cornerback Tariq Woolen, all of whom immediately became major contributors for Seattle. General manager John Schneider has done an excellent job in the draft, so keep an eye out for the 2023 class to make similarly big contributions.

Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl Odds Analysis

The biggest key for the Seahawks’ Super Bowl chances this season is the continued evolution of Geno Smith. Last year, Smith far exceeded expectations with his first Pro Bowl season, and he now needs to prove that wasn’t a mirage. So far, his production has remained incredibly steady, and in a league full of quarterback issues, that’s a massive plus for this team.

One of the positions the Seahawks needed to fix immediately was at the defensive line, as they lacked any sort of premier edge rusher or run stopper. However, reinforcements entered the picture and Seattle isn’t nearly the same porous run defense it was last season. In fact, they’ve become one of the best run defenses in the NFL.

With added depth on the defensive line, the Seahawks went with cornerback Devon Witherspoon in the first round to bolster their improving pass defense. Later in the first round, Seattle grabbed wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, a tremendous product out of Ohio State who will help improve their passing game over the middle of the field. He will benefit from wide open middles with DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett on the outside.

The Seahawks unfortunately play in the same division as the 49ers, perhaps the best team in the NFL, so it’s an uphill battle for them. However, with both games against their division rival yet to come, the opportunity is there for some upsets. If the Seahawks can sneak into the playoffs, they will be a tough out with their elite coaching and improved roster overall.

Reasons Why the Seahawks Can & Can’t Win Super Bowl 58

Strengths:

  • Arguably top-5 receiver trio in Lockett, Metcalf, and JSN
  • Stability in the secondary with the addition of Devon Witherspoon
  • Geno Smith is a capable quarterback to lead them to success

Weaknesses:

  • Offensive line injuries have hampered early season success
  • Geno Smith is still an unproven playoff quarterback
  • The pass rush can leave a bit to be desired at times
