The New York Yankees will take on the San Francisco Giants in an interleague matchup to open up the 2026 MLB season. It’s an intriguing matchup between a World Series contender and a potential dark horse wild card team.

Opening Day is always special because after months of waiting for the first pitch, baseball is finally here. Being the only game on the slate adds even more intrigue, especially since it’ll be the first MLB game streamed live on Netflix.

We’re going to dive into MLB Opening Day with our Yankees vs. Giants preview, including betting odds and predictions for the first game of the 2026 MLB season.

Opening Day Schedule

The Yankees will look to start their year on a positive note, as they try to bounce back from a disappointing season where they lost in the ALDS to the Toronto Blue Jays. Meanwhile, the Giants start a new era with first-year manager Tony Vitello, as they try to get back to the postseason.

MLB Opening Day Odds & Game Preview

The Yankees open as short road favorites in a projected low-scoring game. This sets up as a potential pitcher’s duel on paper, with a pair of aces in Max Fried and Logan Webb on the mound. But it’s always risky to take an under in a Yankees game, given their high-powered lineup, even though it’s at a pitcher-friendly environment in Oracle Park. With sluggers like Aaron Judge and Ben Rice, the Bronx Bombers can push a low total over the number with one swing of the bat.

Yankees vs. Giants Game Preview

The Yankees prioritized continuity this offseason, bringing back both Cody Bellinger and Trent Grisham. With a full year of Ben Rice becoming an everyday player, this team should remain one of the best offenses in baseball. I know that fans were a bit frustrated at the lack of big moves this year, but it’s still a stacked team. Don’t be surprised if Jazz Chisholm Jr. has a massive season, as it’s a contract year for him.

The Giants also had a quiet offseason, with veterans Luis Arraez and Tyler Mahle as their only notable additions. It will be interesting if we see a change of philosophy with a first-year manager like Tony Vitello. Perhaps with a fresh perspective, they’ll be more aggressive on the basepaths. That could be a way to generate more offense, as this team ranked 29th in steals last year.

As for the matchup at hand, Max Fried vs. Logan Webb can be a pitcher’s duel. These are two innings-eaters who can pitch deep into games, with Fried (195.1 innings) and Webb (207 innings) among the league leaders in innings pitched last year. However, we have to remember that since it’s the first game of the season, you’re likely to see lighter workloads than usual. With that in mind, there’s definitely a chance that it can be higher-scoring than expected.

Yankees vs. Giants Players to Watch

I’ve zeroed in on two players to watch for MLB player prop bets. Odds listed below are for Over prices.

Luis Arraez: Under 1.5 H+R+RBI

I like under 1.5 hits+runs+RBI for Arraez in this spot. For one, Arraez struggles against lefties, slashing .262/.294/.350 against them last season. He’ll face one of the toughest lefties in MLB in Max Fried, who allowed a .209 batting average vs. left-handed hitters in 2025. There’s a chance that Arraez will bat sixth in the order with a lefty on the mound. Hitting lower in the lineup means fewer at-bats and likely fewer chances to drive in a run. I like that we’re getting a reasonable -110 price here.

Max Fried: Under 15.5 Outs

I also like Fried to go under 15.5 outs, even though he’s an innings eater. The Giants were tied for 11th in pitches per plate appearances vs. lefties last year. Fried has also gone five innings or fewer in six of his last seven season debuts. Some pitchers are notorious slow starters, as it takes time for them to round into form. It appears that this is the case with Fried. I know that 15.5 is a low bar, but I like the price at +100.

Yankees vs. Giants Best Bet, Pick, and Prediction

I like the Giants to get the win in their new manager’s debut. With Webb on the mound, coupled with Fried’s struggles in season debuts, I’m riding with the home underdog here. Webb has a 2.84 ERA and 1.14 at Oracle Park throughout his career, compared with a 3.95 ERA and 1.26 WHIP on the road. Look for him to out-duel Fried on Opening Day.

I know that the Yankees have the better lineup, but a full year of Rafael Devers to go along with Willy Adames, Heliot Ramos, and Jung Hoo Lee makes the Giants underrated on offense. With Vitello managing his first career game at the big-league level, it feels like there’s more at stake for the Giants here.

Score Prediction: Giants 5, Yankees 3
Best Bet: SF ML

MLB Opening Day Futures Markets

There are plenty of MLB futures bets to make as we head into Opening Day. The Yankees are favored to win the AL East, while the Giants are priced as the third-best team in the NL West. San Francisco feels a bit undervalued, especially since they’re behind a Padres team with questionable pitching.

Whether you want to take Aaron Judge to win AL MVP or sprinkle on Logan Webb to win NL Cy Young, there are so many options to choose from. Make sure to lock in your bets before first pitch. You can always monitor throughout the year to try to get even more value.

MLB Opening Day Cy Young Odds & Analysis

One market that I’ve looked at closely is AL Cy Young, where Cole Ragans stands out as a major value. The Royals’ lefty put up an impressive 2.52 SIERA and 38.1% strikeout rate last season. For context, Tarik Skubal, last year’s AL Cy Young winner, had a 2.71 SIERA and 32.2% strikeout rate. All that we need is for Ragans to stay healthy, and he’s going to contend for this award. We’re getting longshot odds on this wager, making it worth a look.

MLB Opening Day Weekend Games

MLB Opening Day Weekend is always fun, but I’m looking forward to Guardians vs. Mariners, Red Sox vs. Reds, and Tigers vs. Padres, since each of these teams made the playoffs last year.

Below is a full list of weekend series in MLB, along with their number of games:

  • Diamondbacks at Dodgers (3)
  • Athletics at Blue Jays (3)
  • Royals at Braves (3)
  • Twins at Orioles (3)
  • Red Sox at Reds (3)
  • Nationals at Cubs (3)
  • Guardians at Mariners (4)
  • Rockies at Marlins (3)
  • White Sox at Brewers (3)
  • Tigers at Padres (3)
  • Angels at Astros (4)
  • Pirates at Mets (3)
  • Yankees at Giants (3)
  • Rangers at Phillies (3)
  • Rays at Cardinals (3)

It’s a huge series for the Astros, who are home to the Angels for four games. With the Mariners favored to win the AL West, it’s important for the Astros to take care of business against inferior opponents. The Angels project as one of the worst teams in baseball, so Houston would love to get a four-game sweep here.

From a betting standpoint, we could get some value on the Pirates, who I think will be among the biggest surprises of the year. While I’m high on the Mets, anything can happen in a given series. Pittsburgh made some smart additions this offseason, bringing in Marcell Ozuna, Brandon Lowe, and Ryan O’Hearn.

Regardless of what happens, it’s great to have baseball back. Time to grind out another long and fun season.
