For a franchise that’s well-versed in disappointment, even the 2025 NFL season would have felt like a slog for the New York Jets. With a 3-14 record, the joint-worst in the NFL and the second-worst record for the franchise since the year 2000, and a bottom-five offense and defense in EPA per play, the Jets were a disaster class. After a disappointing 2024 season where the team fired former head coach Robert Saleh and moved on from veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the Jets sought a first-time head coach who could rejuvenate a team down on its luck.

They turned to former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, who helped the Lions become a top-ten defense in 2024. Glenn faced a tall task: the Jets had one of the worst rosters in the NFL and no sign of a franchise quarterback on the roster, signing former first-round pick Justin Fields to a two-year, $40 million deal. If anything, Fields was a placeholder with some upside, but all eyes would be on the 2026 NFL Draft.

The reality provided an element of whiplash for the Jets. Glenn looked to be completely out of his depth at times as the team’s head coach as they started the season with a seven-game losing streak that parlayed into trading away their two superstar defensive players, cornerback Sauce Gardner and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams. Those two trades netted the Jets a healthy haul of draft picks, but only solidified the sentiment that this team needed changes. And a lot of them. Glenn managed to survive an offseason of changes, but heads into the 2026 NFL season as a coach firmly, and maybe unfairly, on the hot seat. Frank Reich was curiously brought in to be the team’s new offensive coordinator, in a move that lacks inspiration, but the Jets did make some compelling moves to upgrade the roster.

Fixing the defense was essential to any improvement, and the Jets spent in free agency to make it happen. Veteran linebacker Demario Davis was brought in to give the unit some leadership, while boosting the pass-rush was key. David Bailey was drafted with the second overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, and the Jets will hope he can make an immediate impact. They also added former Bengal Joseph Ossai and former Packer Kingsley Enagbare to provide some much-needed depth. To hammer home just how many changes were needed, the front office also traded for defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat and safety Minkah Fitzpatrick from the Titans and Dolphins, respectively.

Geno Smith won’t be a long-term fix at the quarterback position, but if he has a bounce-back year in him after a tough 2025 with the Las Vegas Raiders, the floor will be a lot higher for the Jets offense. There could be a lot to like with this team; there’s some intriguing young talent like Bailey, and fellow first-rounders Kenyon Sadiq and Omar Cooper Jr., as well as star receiver Garrett Wilson, but the coaching staff is going to come under some necessary scrutiny, and they could be the difference between a season of hope, or one that ends within the first five weeks of the season.

2026 New York Jets Super Bowl Odds

The Jets’ Super Bowl odds don’t come as a surprise. Only the Miami Dolphins and the Arizona Cardinals have worse odds to win the Super Bowl than the Jets (+20000). That’s not a shocker. The Jets have been around the rebuild block so many times, and it’s clear that they’re doing so again. Their draft capital is among the best in the league, and if handled right, there could be some good times ahead for the Jets if they’re able to hone in on a quarterback in the 2027 NFL Draft. However, that doesn’t lend itself to promise in 2026. The Jets are going to be a struggling franchise once again, and no one within the organization, or on planet Earth, expects a Super Bowl charge.

2026 New York Jets AFC Championship Odds

The late 2000s and early 2010s provided the New York Jets with a glimmer of hope; something that’s largely evaded them throughout history. The Jets made back-to-back AFC Conference Championships in 2009 and 2010, losing to the Indianapolis Colts and Pittsburgh Steelers. That’s the closest the Jets have come to competing in a Super Bowl since 1968 with Broadway Joe Namath. Like the Super Bowl win, even competing in the AFC Championship is a little more than a pipedream for the Jets. Winning it would be a whole different story. There’s no doubt the Jets could have a compelling element to them in 2026 with Smith and a cast of young offensive talent, but the Jets just don’t have the horses to win the AFC. This is an easy fade.

2026 New York Jets AFC East Odds

It’s been a long, long time since the New York Jets have felt the sweet embrace of winning the AFC East. The last time the Jets won the East was all the way back in 2002 with a 9-7 record. A contingent of their roster wasn’t even born when the Jets last won the division. Since then, the Jets have finished as the basement dwellers ten times, but have finished second seven times. They’ve come close, but haven’t been able to get the job done. The likelihood is that it doesn’t change in 2026. The Patriots and Bills have a clear stranglehold on the division, while the Jets and Dolphins will be forced, once again, to fight it out for the third spot. Miracles can happen, but they don’t happen often enough in MetLife Stadium.

2026 New York Jets Win Total Odds

A repeat of the 2025 NFL season, where the Jets won three games, isn’t out of the question, but there’s enough talent on this team to win some games. The question is more about the coaching. Can Glenn, Reich, and defensive coordinator Brian Duker put this team in a position to succeed, or will they be fighting for their jobs by Week 6? The Jets face the 12th-strongest schedule in the NFL in 2026. They’ll face the Bills and Patriots twice in division play, and matchups against the AFC West and NFC North—two of the tougher divisions in the NFL. The Jets’ current win total is 5.5 wins, a total they’ve eclipsed three times since 2016—the last time the team had a winning season. Backing the team to get to six wins isn’t a tall bet, but the coaching staff could make this season a little tougher.

2026 New York Jets To Make The Playoffs Odds

It’s no secret that the New York Jets have the longest playoff drought in North American sports. The Jets last playoff appearance came all the way back in 2010, when they lost to the Steelers in the AFC Championship Game. Since then, they’ve been on the outside looking in for 15 straight seasons. An unwanted record, and likely one the Jets won’t be able to shake in 2026. Their playoff odds sit at +690, the third-longest odds to make the postseason in the NFL, and there’s little reason to believe that this team is finally going to get over the hump in Glenn’s second season. Even with all of the additions in the offseason, the Jets still have some major flaws and reside in a difficult division where they could be the fourth-best team. They’ll be on the outside looking in once again.

2026 New York Jets MVP Award Odds & Contenders

  • Geno Smith
  • Breece Hall

The Jets haven’t had an MVP winner since Joe Namath back in 1969. The Jets have played host to more than their fair share of exciting talent since then, but no one has come close to winning the MVP award. Once again, the reality in New York is that it’ll be another year before it happens, at least. Veteran quarterback Geno Smith has the best chance to win the award, but he’s coming off a season where he finished 44th out of 45 quarterbacks in total EPA. That Raiders team was a mess, and this Jets team comfortably has more talent across the board, least of all on the offensive line and at receiver.

That could serve Smith well in 2026, and it might be able to help him prove that he still has enough juice left in the tank to carry on competing at a high level. Beyond Smith, running back Breece Hall has the strongest claim. The former second-round pick is coming off his first 1000-yard campaign in 2025 and will be looking to establish himself as one of the best running backs in the NFL behind a good offensive line. A monster season could do that.
