The Teaser: 3-Team Breakdown

Leg 1: Ravens -1.5 (teased from -7.5)

Even under new management, the Baltimore Ravens were able to brush aside regression and get off to a hot start, beating the Indianapolis Colts 41-23. Derrick Henry played a major role in their dominant performance, finishing the contest with 144 yards and three touchdowns while averaging six yards per carry. Lamar Jackson was also able to hit the ground running, adding another 40 yards with his legs while finding the back of the end zone.

Their versatility will be on full display against the New Orleans Saints by taking advantage of a front seven who ranks near dead last in Def Rush Success Rate. Especially with the Saints defensive line struggling to clog the Ravens running lanes in the trenches, making it easier for Henry to reach the second level of their defense and create an explosive play.

Leg 2: Buccaneers -2.5 (teased from -8.5)

The race for the number one pick in next year’s draft is officially underway with the Cleveland Browns showing no signs of life on offense. Deshaun Watson was unable to keep their drives alive with his play under center, residing in the bottom half of the board in EPA per play while leading an offense who ranks dead last in Off DVOA.

Heading into Week 2, Watson’s struggles in the pocket are poised to persist while battling it out against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who rank in the top-12 in Dropback EPA. With their back end keeping pace with their assignments, the Bucs will be able to crash their linebackers down to the interior at a higher rate, forcing Watson to get the ball quickly out of his hands while under pressure which will drastically lower the quality of his throws.

Leg 3: Rams -1 (teased from -7.5)

Don’t let the Los Angeles Rams performance in Week 1 fool you, they are still loaded with talent on both sides of the ball. Even with Myles Garrett on IR, the Rams still field a competitive front seven while protected by one of the best secondaries in the league. A group who is more than capable of smothering Jaxson Dart’s passing lanes, forcing the Giants QB to throw into tight windows at multiple levels of the field.

On the other end, positive regression looms large over Matthew Stafford who underwhelmed in the Rams season opener, ranking well below league average in EPA and in CPOE. With the Giants struggling to hold their own in coverage per their bottom five mark in Dropback Success Rate, Stafford will be able to connect with his pass catchers at a higher rate, leading to an uptick in their total numbers of trips inside the 20.

Why This Teaser Hits

While a one game sample size is hardly enough to put too much stock into, every team we are fading has shown a glaring weakness, making them our primary targets for our teaser. Including the Saints who lack the talent up front that is needed to slow down the Ravens ground game, making them vulnerable to getting pushed back into the red zone at an alarming rate.

The Buccaneers meanwhile will be able to get the Browns off the field shortly into their drives, using their suffocating coverage to plug Watson’s passing lanes. When contested, the Browns probability of hauling in a reception declines while leading to an increase in Watson’s total number of Turnover Worthy Plays.

Rounding out the teaser, the Rams will be able to create a scoring pace far too fast for the Giants to keep up with while Stafford picks apart a secondary who is incapable of keeping a defender on Puka Nacua and Davante Adams hips for the full duration of their routes. Reminder, a teaser follows the same rules as a parlay, meaning every leg must cash or else your bet as a whole will be graded as a loss.
