At the same time as their puck drop, we also turn our attention towards Sebastian Aho and Jordan Eberle with both forwards battling it out against a pair of back lines who have struggled to find their footing. Tage Thompson (Sabres vs. Blackhawks) Goal Odds

The engine that drives the Buffalo Sabres offense, Tage Thompson is an aggressive scorer who relentlessly attacks the net as soon as he hits the ice, generating 0.58 Expected Goals while averaging four Shots on Goal per game.

Even though he failed to find the back of the net in Buffalo’s season opener against Columbus, the Sabres star forward will be able to continue to pressure the net at a high rate against Chicago by taking advantage of a back line that ranks near dead last in Expected Goals Against. When exposed, Spencer Knight will be unable to match Thompson’s output while averaging a Save Percentage of .889.

Positive regression is also looming large over Thompson when the Sabres are in the Power Play after he was unable to rifle off a Shot on Goal in over two minutes. With the Blackhawks severely struggling in coverage, back Thompson to score and place a smaller wager on him to net the first goal as well.

Sebastian Aho (Hurricanes vs. Flyers) Goal Odds

With Seth Jarvis out of the lineup, The Carolina Hurricanes have leaned heavier on Sebastian Aho to keep them competitive during his absence, leading to an uptick in his usage rate while averaging three Shots on Goal per game in two outings.

After scoring in his last appearance, Aho will be able to build on his momentum in a matchup against Philadelphia by exploiting a back line who is currently giving up over four Expected Goals Against per game. A stunning regression after playing at a high level last year, yet the lack of protection Dan Vlader has received from the back line has made it impossible for him to defend the net, giving up 7.04 Goals Against per game.

Even with Jarvis on the bench, Andrei Svechnikov is able to pull defensive attention away from Aho in 5-on-4 Situations, widening the width of his shooting lanes on the opposite side which improves the quality of his shot attempts. With Aho shouldering a heavy workload while creating higher quality scoring opportunities, expect the Hurricanes center to score his second goal of the season.

Jordan Eberle (Kraken vs. Oilers) Goal Odds

One of our three bets in Thursday’s edition, Jordan Eberle came through for us in Seattle’s season opener against Calgary by scoring the first goal of the game while generating 0.98 Expected Goals in nearly 18 minutes of play.

Heading into Saturday’s tilt against Edmonton, Eberle will be able to continue to light the lamp by ambushing a back line who has been abysmal this season, giving up a combined 13 goals in two games. Even if Tristan Jarry is able to round back into form, the Kraken’s versatility will force him to make quick cuts across the ice for the full duration of the contest, opening up larger gaps once his legs start to give out.

When in the Power Play, Eberle has been the focal point of the offense, comfortably leading the first unit in Expected Goals. Expect Eberle to continue to capitalize on his scoring opportunities while weaving the puck through the Oilers stretched out coverage and score his second goal in as many games.
