Joining Thompson are a pair of familiar names with Timo Meier and Tomas Hertl both in a favorable position to score while battling it out against a back line who struggles to keep a defender near the vicinity of shot attempts. Tage Thompson (Sabres vs. Panthers) Goal Odds
After consistently lighting the lamp last season, Tage Thompson has been able to pick up from where he left off, kicking off his 2026-27 campaign with a trio of Goals while averaging 0.60 Expected Goals per game.
In a highly anticipated matchup against the Florida Panthers, Thompson will be able to continue to pressure the net at a high rate while blitzing through a back line who quietly ranks below league average in Expected Goals Against in All Situations. Even with Jacob Markstrom giving up just 1.71 Goals Against per game, the Sabres versatility on offense will force him to scramble between the pipes, creating wider shooting lanes on the outside for Thompson to exploit.
When in the Power Play, Thompson has taken a step back, generating just 0.08 Expected Goals per penalty. With the Panthers underwhelming in coverage, the quality of Thompson’s shot attempts will drastically improve, increasing his chances of finding the back of the net.
Timo Meier
Even while averaging 5.5 Shots on Goal per game, Timo Meier’s aggression has yet to translate to the stat sheet, failing to score a Goal in four games.
Fortunately for the New Jersey Devils forward, Meier will have a great opportunity to score his first Goal of the season against the Ottawa Senators by taking advantage of a back line who struggles to defend their net per their below league average mark in Expected Goals Against From High Danger Shots. The production Meier receives from Nico Hischier will also help pull Linus Ullmark away from the crease, creating high quality rebound opportunities.
In 5-on-4 Situations, the Devils second unit runs through Meier, leading to an uptick in his usage rate. With the Senators struggling to wall off the puck, Meier will be able to convert his shot attempts into Shots on Goal at a higher rate, leading to his first Goal of the season.
Tomas Hertl (Golden Knight vs. Wild) Goal Odds
After a hot start to the year, Tomas Hertl has cooled off, failing to score in his last two starts. Even during his brief cold stretch of play, Hertl has still been aggressive in his efforts of pressuring the net, generating 0.62 Expected Goals while averaging nearly three Shots on Goal per game.
Heading into Monday night’s contest against the Minnesota Wild, Hertl will be able to snap out of his skid by attacking a back line who resides in the bottom half of the board in Expected Goals Against in 5-on-5 Play. Especially with negative regression looming large over Jesper Wallstedt while trying to match the Golden Knights output, leaving the Wild goalie vulnerable to getting beat while making quick cuts across the crease.
To help keep Wallstedt moving, Hertl is joined by Jack Eichel and Mitch Marner in the Golden Knights Power Play, giving him the firepower he needs from the blue line to wear down the Wild goalie. With Hertl comfortably leading the team in Expected Goals, diversify your risk by placing a separate wager on him to score the first Goal as well.
