Best Bet: U6.5 (+101) at DraftKings

Best Bet: Rays -1.5 (+130)

Score Prediction: Rays 4, Guardians 2

The Pick: Rays 4, Guardians 2

We’ll take the Under based heavily on head-to-head data, while the Rays’ run line provides a window for value if desired.

Game Betting Analysis

The Under seems to be the top play based on the data, which shows the Under hitting in seven of eight meetings between Cleveland and Tampa Bay. The NRFI has also hit in nine straight meetings, but that market is an expensive -150. Tampa Bay has won three straight games against Cleveland along with five of the last six head-to-heads, also covering the run line in four of six meetings. The favorite has also covered the run line in three of four meetings, so if steering away from the total the next best bet is the run line for Tampa Bay to cover at plus-value. Cleveland has lost seven straight playoff games when coming off a home win, so either market suffices although the total is the safer play for obvious reasons.

Deciding Factor: Drew Rasmussen’s Near-Flawless Form vs. Foster Griffin’s Post-Trade Collapse

Tampa Bay opens the ALCS at home tonight off the best season in franchise history — a 98-64 record, the AL East title, a four-game sweep of the Yankees in the ALDS, and a Tropicana Field mark of 55-26 (.679), the third-best home winning percentage in team history. Drew Rasmussen gets the ball for Game 1 after a 2026 season that stands up against anyone in the sport: 16-5, a 2.67 ERA, a minuscule 0.91 WHIP and 174 strikeouts over 172 innings. He’s already seen this specific opponent and dominated it, throwing seven scoreless innings with nine strikeouts and just one walk against Cleveland on July 26, and he carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning of ALDS Game 1 against New York, finishing with 10 strikeouts and two walks in a 1-0 win. A pitcher with that little margin for free baserunners, facing a lineup he’s already shut down once this year, is the single biggest obstacle standing between Cleveland and a Game 1 upset.

The Guardians, meanwhile, are starting Foster Griffin tonight out of necessity, not plan — ace Gavin Williams just threw 5⅔ scoreless innings with 12 strikeouts on short rest in Saturday’s winner-take-all ALDS Game 5 clincher and isn’t walking through that door again this quickly. Griffin was a National League All-Star with Washington before the trade deadline, posting a 3.06 ERA and 1.07 WHIP over 129⅓ innings for the Nationals, but he’s been a different pitcher since Cleveland acquired him: a 5.19 ERA and 1.62 WHIP over just 43⅓ innings, with his only October look so far coming in relief rather than as a starter (2⅔ innings, one run, seven strikeouts in ALDS Game 3). Cleveland’s counterpunch is Jose Ramirez, who has been nothing short of locked in — 5-for-12 with two home runs and seven RBIs across Games 3 through 5 of the ALDS, with his two-run shot in the clincher kicking off a comeback from an 0-2 series deficit that was just the 11th in postseason history and the first since the 2017 Yankees. If Griffin can summon any version of his first-half Washington form against a Rays lineup seeing him for the first time, and if Ramirez’s bat stays as hot as it’s been over the last five games, the Guardians have a real path to stealing Game 1 before this series even shifts to Progressive Field.
