Joining Johnston are Kyle Connor and Logan Stankoven, two productive forwards who are also in a favorable position to score while skating circles around a pair of underwhelming back lines. Wyatt Johnston (Stars vs. Bruins) Goal Odds
Even though the Dallas Stars have underwhelmed as a whole on offense, Wyatt Johnston has still been a steady source of production, leading the team in Expected Goals with an average of 0.46 while generating 2.67 Shots on Goal per game.
With the Boston Bruins on deck, expect Johnston to score his first Goal of the season by taking advantage of a back line that resides in the bottom half of the board in Expected Goals Against in 5-on-5 Play. Even with Jeremy Swayman in net, the Stars versatility in the top line will keep the Bruins goalie constantly scrambling between the pipes, widening the width of Johnston’s shooting lanes on the outside.
When in the Power Play, Johnston is accompanied by Roope Hints and Mikko Rantanen, two efficient scorers who will help pull defensive attention away from him. With fewer bodies between Johnston and the net, the Stars forward will be able to convert his shot attempts into Shots on Goal at a higher rate, increasing his chances of scoring.
Kyle Connor (Jets vs. Blues) Goal Odds
Like Johnston, Kyle Connor has also been able to play at a high level while receiving minimal support from his linemates, averaging 0.55 Expected Goals per game.
Fortunately for Connor, he will have a great opportunity to build on his momentum against the St. Louis Blues by attacking a back line that struggles to defend their net per their near dead last mark in Expected Goals Against From High Danger Shots. When left unprotected, Joel Hofer will be forced to pull away from the crease, creating larger gaps beside him for Connor to exploit.
In 5-on-4 Situations, Connor’s usage has remained unscathed, comfortably leading the team in Shots on Goal while averaging 0.18 Expected Goals per penalty. With no signs of slowing down, place a wager on Connor to score and diversify your risk by placing a smaller bet on the Jets forward to net the first Goal as well.
Logan Stankoven (Hurricanes vs. Canucks) Goal Odds
In his last start against Vancouver, Logan Stankoven was able to generate a hat trick en route to a 7-2 victory over the Canucks. Since then, Stankoven’s stick has cooled off, failing to score a Goal in his last five games. Even during his recent skid, the Carolina Hurricanes forward has been productive, generating 0.35 Expected Goals per game.
In a rematch against the Canucks, Stankoven will be able to snap out of his slump by ambushing a back line that ranks 31st in Expected Goals Against in All Situations. Especially with Kevin Lankenin incapable of walling off the Hurricanes relentless assault in front of the net, giving up 6.40 Goals Against per game while averaging a Save Percentage of .807.
With the Canucks struggling to keep a body in front of the puck, the quality of Stankoven’s Shots on Goal will improve, making it difficult for Lankenin to wall them off. Stankoven’s usage rate also increases when in the Power Play while running the Hurricanes second unit, leading to an uptick in his total number of scoring opportunities.
