Best Bet: O151.5 (-108) at DraftKings

Score Prediction: Valkyries 77, Dream 75

The Pick: Valkyries 77, Dream 75

We’ll take the Over based on head-to-head data when playing in Atlanta, statistics within State Farm Arena and Golden State’s recent road trends.

Game Betting Analysis

While the Under hit for us in Game 1 and Game 2, State Farm Arena turns the script over with a 7-2 O/U record this season. Atlanta, also, has hit the Over in its last seven playoff games inside State Farm Arena. Golden State has also gone Over in three of four on the road. Still, the Under has hit in six of seven meetings so we’ll see what the ATS market is cooking. Atlanta is on an 8-0 ATS run as the favorite, also winning its last eight games when playing at night. While Golden State has won four of five games off a loss, four of their last six losses have come on the road. Golden State has, though, won four of five games outright against the Dream while the underdog has also covered four of five meetings – Golden State the Game 3 underdog. With the crossing data points, we’ll actually take the Over, surprising to us. Despite the Under hitting in the last two games and six of eight meetings – the two times it went Over were in Atlanta. State Farm is averaging a very high 185.6 points per game this season and we get 151 on the total. Ultimately, we’re siding with the head-to-head trends in Atlanta, games in State Farm and Golden State’s recent road data for this one.

Valkyries vs. Dream Odds (Spread, Moneyline, Over/Under)

Deciding Factor: Angel Reese’s Glass Control vs. Golden State’s One-Woman, Ice-Cold Offense

The series is knotted at 1-1 as it shifts to State Farm Arena for Game 3, and the two games so far have told almost opposite stories offensively. Golden State stole Game 1 at Chase Center, 68-64, despite shooting a putrid 32.1% from the field and just 7-of-33 (21%) from three, surviving on Gabby Williams’ 26-point explosion and a fourth quarter in which the defense held Atlanta to eight points. Atlanta flipped the script in Game 2, running the Valkyries off the floor 79-65 behind a monster Angel Reese line of 30 points, 16 rebounds and two blocks — on top of her 14-and-12 Finals debut in Game 1, that’s 28 rebounds through two games — while Jordin Canada nearly notched a triple-double with 13 points, seven rebounds and 10 assists and Allisha Gray chipped in 18, continuing her comeback from the finger injury that cost her the final two games of Atlanta’s semifinal sweep of New York. With Reese setting the tone inside and Canada pushing the pace as a secondary playmaker, Atlanta’s ability to dominate the glass and generate extra possessions is the single biggest swing factor heading into a pivotal Game 3 on its home floor.

Golden State, meanwhile, has leaned almost entirely on Gabby Williams to carry the scoring load, and the supporting cast hasn’t answered the bell when it’s mattered most — no other Valkyrie reached double figures in Game 1, and in Game 2 Williams had managed just nine points at halftime as the team shot under 40% from the field in that opening half before the Dream pulled away in the third quarter. Tiffany Hayes gave Golden State a spark off the bench with 11 points at the half of Game 2, but she’s also an injury question mark after taking a hard fall to the face late in Game 1 that sent her to the locker room, and Williams herself banged a knee in the closing minutes of that same game. If Golden State can’t find a consistent second scoring option to complement Williams and keep hitting enough from the perimeter to offset Atlanta’s rebounding edge inside, Reese and the Dream’s physical advantage on the glass should be enough to push Atlanta to a 2-1 series lead in front of their home crowd. But if Williams gets real scoring help and Golden State’s defense can force the kind of foul trouble that limited Rhyne Howard and nearly disqualified Reese in Game 2, the Valkyries have enough two-way balance to steal Game 3 on the road and take a stranglehold on the series.
