Game Betting Analysis
We’re going to take the Over here, as we’ll get to the betting data in a second but the team data is a main reason why as well. Purdue’s pass defense ranks 113th in the nation, and while Washington has a backup possibly playing, that backup did damage against Iowa. Purdue’s offense is also very good, but we’ll get into team specifics below – the data supports the Over as it has hit in all four home games for Purdue this season – averaging 62.5 points per home game this season. Purdue has actually hit the Over in seven of eight games overall, while Washington was able to touch 49 points in last year’s meeting. The ATS is also murky. Despite Washington’s woes with a 1-5 ATS mark this season, Purdue struggles as a favorite with ATS fails in seven straight when playing as a favorite in October.

Deciding Factor: Purdue’s Surging Ground Game vs. Washington’s Backup-QB Uncertainty
Purdue enters off its best performance of the season, a 41-13 win over Minnesota in which it ran for 305 yards on 47 carries (6.5 per rush) behind Fame Ijeboi (549 yards, 9 TDs on the year) while holding the Gophers to just 27 rushing yards on 13 attempts, and the Boilermakers have the ball-security profile to lean on that identity — Ryan Browne is completing 68.9% of his throws (124-of-180) for 1,549 yards and 9 touchdowns against a single interception, and Purdue has turned the ball over just 4 times (1 INT, 3 fumbles) all season. At 2-1 in Big Ten play and favored by 3.5 at home in a building Washington hasn’t visited since 1990, Purdue’s path is straightforward: control the clock on the ground against a Washington defense that, despite respectable overall numbers (60th in scoring defense, 48th in total defense), just surrendered 263 rushing yards to Iowa alone, and let a backup-led Husky offense live on short fields.
Washington, meanwhile, is almost certainly turning to Elijah Brown for his first career start after Demond Williams Jr.’s rib injury left him officially questionable, and while Brown was genuinely sharp in relief against Iowa — 28-of-39 (71.8%) for 251 yards and 3 touchdowns in just over a half, 15-of-16 for 130 yards and 2 scores against the blitz, and a 2.36-second average release that’s noticeably quicker than Williams’ 3.09 — he’s making just his third career appearance with more than 200 passing yards, and Washington’s run game gave him zero margin for error last week, managing -3 yards on 25 carries and ranking 135th nationally at just 90.3 rushing yards per game. The matchup does favor Brown in one specific way: Purdue’s pass defense ranks 113th nationally, allowing 243.2 yards per game through the air with only 4 interceptions forced all season, and Washington will also be down linebacker Xe’ree Alexander (doubtful, high ankle sprain) on the other side of the ball. If Brown can replicate his blitz-resistant, quick-trigger form from the Iowa relief outing against that leaky Purdue secondary, Washington has a real path to cover — and even pull the outright upset as a 36-years-removed road dog — but if his first career start is shakier than his sample size suggests and Washington’s one-dimensional offense can’t buy him time, Purdue’s revived ground game should be enough to control the game and cover at home.
