Are you ready for a day with six matches in it? Wednesday marks the first day of final group stage matches, with three groups to be decided and at least six knockout teams learning when and where they’ll play — though who teams will play will be shrouded in a bit of mystery until all the fortunes of the third-place teams are determined.

In Group B, Canada and Switzerland play to determine who wins the group and who stays in Canada through the Round of 16 — something Les Rouges would most definitely like to do. Meanwhile, Bosnia and Herzegovina will play Qatar to determine who finishes third in the group — some projections have Bosnia and Herzegovina securing that position and then facing the U.S. in the Bay Area on July 1.

Group C provides some intrigue after that, with either Brazil or Morocco set to win the group after drawing in their opener. Morocco’s already handled the Scotland team that Brazil will face, whereas Brazil eliminated the Haiti team that Morocco now gets.

Then, Group A brings South Africa against South Korea and Mexico — which has already secured its spot and looks likely to win its group and possibly be on a collision course with Mexico in the Round of 16.

The goalscorers to watch for in this slate of matches have all scored in the World Cup already — but there’s good reason to recommend them. Make sure to check out our World Cup match trends page for daily odds, insights, and betting data for each game.

Jonathan David, Canada

While this match might look more Jonathan David’s opening match, in which he was shut out despite engineering multiple chances in front of goal, rather than his hat-trick performance against Qatar, Canada’s running in a higher gear than it was when it started the tournament, and with Ali Ahmed now in the lineup, David’s got one more assist-minded teammate behind him — and it’s possible that Alphonso Davies makes his 2026 World Cup debut after healing a hamstring injury in the first two matches.

The one concern against teams of Switzerland’s ilk — and what lies beyond in the knockout rounds — is that they’ll miss the cohesion that Ismaël Koné brings to the midfield. But after a Qatari player broke Koné’s leg a little more than halfway through the most recent match, Canada found inspiration despite the shock and put up another three goals. David should add to his total — keeping him in the World Cup Golden Boot discussion.

Vinícius Júnior, Brazil

Through two matches, it’s clear that Brazil is reliant on Vinícius Júnior — perhaps too reliant, as he was the lone goalscorer in the match against Morocco, and then had a goal, plus an assist to Matheus Cunha, in a 3-0 win over Haiti in which all three goals were scored before halftime.

This becomes more worrisome in the knockout rounds, particularly if Morocco runs up the score on an already-out Haiti, wins on goal differential, and puts Brazil in second place — possibly putting Brazil in a high-stakes Round of 32 match against Netherlands. Even the winner of this group will likely be tested by Japan or Sweden, assuming that Netherlands wins its group and Japan and Sweden scrap for second place.

Vini Jr. should get a goal against a Scotland team that’s competent enough but doesn’t quite have a player on his level. It’s what happens after that could be concerning.

Raúl Jiménez, Mexico

Don’t expect Raúl Jiménez to play close to a full 90 — Mexico’s got this group wrapped up already and knows that it will play a third-place team in the Azteca on June 30. But look for manager Javier Aguirre to want to get his star striker reps ahead of the knockout rounds. Of course, he might want to test out his attacking depth as well. But certainly another goal in the group stages would be good given that El Tri only managed one goal — gifted by a goalkeeping howler — would help Raúl and his team out.
