South Korea 2026 World Cup Team Preview, Betting Odds, Predictions & Best Bets

The South Korean national team is set to take part in its 11th straight World Cup later this Summer. Despite the consistent appearances, the Taegeuk Warriors have reached the semi-finals only once during this span.

Can this year’s team outperform those of the past? Let’s break down our South Korea predictions, odds, and best bets for the 2026 World Cup.

South Korea enters the tournament tied with the fourth-longest odds (+25000) to lift the trophy for the first time in the country’s history. The Taegeuk Warriors have the second-shortest odds among Asian teams, only behind Japan.

Oddsmakers expect Korea Republic to exit in the early rounds, giving Myung Bo Hong’s squad +7500 odds just to reach the final.

South Korea 2026 World Cup Best Bet

Bo Hong’s squad will benefit from playing in one of the more balanced groups at the 2026 World Cup. With no overwhelming favorite, South Korea technically has a chance to upset Group A and finish first, though that outcome is unlikely.

Instead, the Taegeuk Warriors will more than likely battle for second place, with Mexico expected to claim the top spot. Most sportsbooks view Czechia as the primary contender for that spot; however, South Korea should definitely be in the mix based on its performances in AFC qualifiers. Korea Republic went unbeaten in 16 qualifying matches, outscoring its opponents 40-8 over the past three years.

These two teams will open the tournament against one another, likely deciding who will grab second place in Group A on matchday 1.

Best Bet: Group A Exact Positions: South Korea Second Place

South Korea 2026 World Cup Players to Watch

South Korea has an interesting mix of young and older talent slated to make the 2026 World Cup squad. Let’s take a look at what players are worth keeping an eye on at this year’s tournament:

Kang-in Lee: PSG midfielder, Lee, is set to represent his country at his second World Cup this Summer. The 25-year-old is widely considered to be South Korea’s most promising young talent heading into the tournament.

The attacking midfielder has shown his goal-scoring prowess, but his best trait is probably his playmaking in central midfield. Lee did not see consistent minutes in the 2022 World Cup as a 21-year-old prospect. Bo Hong will certainly count on Lee far more this Summer.

South Korea World Cup History

South Korea managed to squeeze through to the knockout rounds in the 2022 World Cup after upsetting Portugal in matchday 3. The manager at the time, Paulo Bento, picked up points against both Uruguay and Portugal, despite being underdogs in both matches.

However, the Taegeuk Warriors’ Cinderella run was short-lived after a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Brazil in the Round of 16. Despite the disappointing end, South Korean fans were content to see their team reach the knockout stage for the first time since 2010.

Based on how strong the team looked in AFC qualifiers, South Korea could be poised to make another unexpected run at the 2026 World Cup.
