Army Black Knights Roster 2019 Knights Roster

Head Coach: Jeff Monken        2017 Salary: N/A        Offensive Coordinator: Brent Davis       Defensive Coordinator: Jay Bateman

Stadium: Blaik Field at Michie Stadium Stadium       Surface: Turf        City: West Point        State: New York

After years of futility, the Army Black Knights have turned around their fortunes. In 2017, Army won 10 games, reached a bowl game and won the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy. Army flourished on the heels of a punishing rushing attack, replicating the success that Navy has achieved with the system. Army has now fully bought into the triple-option flexbone offense and will employ it going forward. However, the one certainty for this season is that after two straight winning seasons, nobody will be looking past Army on their schedule.

Although Army graduated quarterback and team leader Ahmad Bradshaw, plenty of talent returns on the offensive side of the football, including nearly all of the team’s running backs. This is important because only one team ran the football more than Army’s 785 rushing attempts. Army even managed to win games last season when it did not throw a single pass attempt. However, the Black Knights will have to rebuild an offensive line that suffered significant losses from last year.

Since one can always count on Army moving the chains with its run game, defense is the essential harbinger of the team’s success. Army returns eight starters on defense from a unit that stepped up to near-dominance last year. In order to continue the program’s momentum, Army will have to succeed against a schedule that includes tough non-conference tilts against Duke and Oklahoma. However, beyond those two powers, nearly every other game is a winnable matchup for Army. Although there is generally one game that is perennially talked about, Army realistically needs to win at least four games against its non-FCS opponents to have a shot at returning to a bowl game this season. The question for Army is whether its success is a two-year blip on the radar screen or whether it is sustainable.
