Auburn Tigers Roster 2019 Tigers Roster

Head Coach: Gus Malzahn        2017 Salary: $4,726,960        Offensive Coordinator: Chip Lindsey       Defensive Coordinator: Kevin Steele

Stadium: Pat Dye Field at Jordan-Hare Stadium       Surface: Grass        City: Auburn        State: Alabama

Gus Malzahn's team will be tested early and often in 2018. To start the season, the Tigers will play host to the Washington Huskies, marking the first, top-10 matchup of the college football season. In November, Auburn becomes road dogs as they travel to play both teams that were featured in the championship game last season: Georgia and Alabama. With a daunting schedule that offers no give, consistency levels will need to remain high. Malzahn has his trusted starter in Jarrett Stidham, a promising sign for a roster that is ailing in other areas. Auburn has built-in affordance to their schedule, marking one or two losses as small blemishes to team's body of work. The team is avoiding this mindset to prevent from falling into a comfort zone.

Stidham is the driving force of the Auburn offense. His skill set mimics that of a pro-style play, offering greater completion percentages and accuracy levels compared to previous Auburn greats. The system switches to a more patient format, allowing for crisp sets and affluent routes for receivers. Auburn usually operates out of a flex offense, which is something that favors the speedy quarterback. The years of Nick Marshall and Cam Newton are distant memories, but Stidham still presents the athletic capabilities to pick up yardage after tucking the ball. Thinning and trimming occurred at the running back position, limiting the depth the team possesses heading into the season. The backfield job is handed to Kam Martin. Martin does a good job in the open field and can use cuts to open his pathways. Chandler Cox is the bigger back that with sans the load for Martin and offer a key user for short distance situations. Beyond these experienced runners, the team gains the opportunity to mold young talents. The hands crew returns their top players, with most entering their junior and senior seasons. This pads comfort for Stidham who can delegate the offense to his style and work the ball to different areas of the field.

The force leading the way at the front line can challenge any opposing offensive line. Auburn returns all of their starters across the line, leaving them a hop, skip, and a jump away from Clemson in contest for the nation's best front line of defense. Derrick Brown, Dontavius Russell, and Marlon Davidson are the players headlining this crew. Each possesses a skill set that compliments the other, marking them as talents that are pro-ready material. The Tigers will also return their leading tackler from a season ago, Deshaun Davis. Davis is a blitz-package guy who loves to get after the quarterback and protect the edges. He will be teamed alongside, Darrell Williams, the team's best coverage talent at the backer position. The nickel and dime sets will be the trouble area for the team in 2018, because their favored depth is non-existent. These packages will force freshman into role players, calling for immediate levels of consistency in coverage. The front tiers should balance the load for the inexperienced secondary, marking this defense as one of the nation's best.
