Mississippi State Bulldogs Roster 2019 Bulldogs Roster

Head Coach: Joe Moorhead        2017 Salary: N/A        Offensive Coordinator: Luke Getsy       Defensive Coordinator: Bob Shoop

Stadium: Davis Wade Stadium       Surface: Grass        City: Starkville        State: Mississippi Joe Moorhead plays inheritor to a very talented Mississippi State squad. Seeing a more favorable situation in Gainesville, Dan Mullens left the program. The replacement contenders came hot and heavy this off-season, with little attention shed on the Moorhead hiring. This is not necessarily a bad thing for a program that has favored bowl births and semi-successful seasons over the past decade. The roster is one of the most talented in recent memory, easing the load on Moorhead's shoulders. The SEC remains on of the top conferences in the country, marking instant impact as something that will not easy be won. Moorhead starts his tenure as a head coach that is well-versed within offensive positions, most importantly, the quarterback position.

Nick Fitzgerald returns to campus as the next breakthrough athlete in Starkville. A return to game shape and form is a sign of promise for this injury-ridden talent. Thankfully, he'll be afforded the opportunity to lineup behind 4 out of 5 returning starters at the offensive line. The backfield gets a big boost of production from the legs of Aeris Williams. Williams has something to prove to a conference that is stacked with runners. Behind this core of lineman, Williams is offered sizeable gaps and holes to burst through. He doesn't have to remain patient and can favor his up-tempo style. Speaking to playing speed, Moorhead coached offenses have always favored the up-tempo style. Suiting the skill sets of the already rostered players bodes well for consistent performance from this talented offense. The only area that needs to gain traction is the wide receiver corps. Moorhead will introduce new looks and place these players within favorable roles. The overall impact of Moorhead joining this program is greater than anything Dan Mullens could have provided.

The opposing side of the ball features some of the best players in college football. The edge rush provided by Montez Sweat is rarely matched by the opposition. Sweat brings a havoc-style of play, placing his name first on the list for tackles for loss, total tackles, and pass breakups. Jeffery Simmons is the plug in the middle, keeping an element of surprise within the defensive line. The consistency level remains near flawless performance as we extend through all tiers of the defense. A limited amount of turnover helps this defense climb in terms of overall ranking among the league.

The only red flag on the production of the roster is the glaringly difficult schedule. The team has to travel to LSU, a Death Valley contest that sees few come out victorious. A trip to Alabama also hits the nerves hard. The Bulldogs play host to a strong Auburn team, which marks the third contest of concern. Competing within the SEC is never a route that is easily traveled. The program has given Alabama a run for their money in the past and they have the roster build to do so this year. This season could be either feast of famine in terms of record, but there are no doubts that the offense will be improved and the defense will keep pace.
