Head Coach: Pat Narduzzi        2017 Salary: $1,827,735        Offensive Coordinator: Shawn Watson       Defensive Coordinator: Randy Bates

Stadium: Heinz Field       Surface: Grass        City: Pittsburgh        State: Pennsylvania

The Pittsburgh Panthers are hoping that the 2018 season will see the team return to their winning ways. On the heels of compiling back-to-back 8-5 seasons in 2015 and 2016, last year's 5-7 finish was quite a disappointment. The Panthers finished the 2017 season with one of their best performances of the campaign when they shocked the college football world by beating the Miami Hurricanes (who were undefeated at the time) by the final score of 24-14, dashing the Hurricanes' hopes of playing in the NCAA playoffs.

So now the question is can Pat Narduzzi's team ride the wave of a great game played nearly nine months ago against the Hurricanes into the new season? At first glance, it appears possible. The Panthers defense will return seven starters in 2018, however, they will have a new coordinator calling the plays.

Randy Bates will now be in charge of the Pittsburgh defense, and he brings plenty of experience with him. Bates has been in the game for over 30 years, with his most recent stint coming with the Northwestern Wildcats where he spent the past 12 seasons coaching linebackers under Pat Fitzgerald.

On offense, it looks like it will be the Kenny Pickett show. The sophomore quarterback started four games in 2017 as a true freshman and showed early signs that he can lead this squad to a winning season.

If the Panthers are to do just that, players like senior wideout Rafael Araujo-Lopes and junior wideout/kick returner Maurice Ffrench will have to come up big in terms of helping out the young QB. Senior running back Darrin Hall will also be key in 2018. Hall is coming off his best season as a Panther, rushing for nearly 700 yards and scoring 10 touchdowns. The Panthers' climb back to the top won’t be easy. They face instate rival Penn State before starting conference play, which includes games on the road against North Carolina, Notre Dame and Miami.
