The tale of the Huskies campaign in 2018 revolves around the dog of a schedule. Week 1, they welcome Auburn. This early-season, non-conference bash will mark the first game of the season in which top-10 teams clash. The winner likely padding their playoff hopes and the loser calling for big wins the rest of the way. The good news for the Huskies: their strength of schedule is unique. In terms of good competition, look no further than the recent production of the Pac-12 North. This conference features the likes of Stanford and Oregon, two programs that are built on winning seasons. The road to the Playoff won't be easy for this team, but they do have a few areas where they remain bright and well-backed.

The return of star quarterback, Jake Browning, represents the most promising news this off-season. Browning, who was considered pro-ready by most NFL scouts, returns for his senior season at Washington. The quarterback has measurables that rank him as one of the top returning quarterbacks in all of college football. He will also have his backfield mate, Myles Gaskin. This duo is poised for making a huge impact to the offense. The roster will replace some talented wide receivers, but Washington has created a system to influence the role of their pass catchers. They burn opposing defenses with their speed, an attribute that is not so easily matched. Health was a huge concern for this team on offense, so gaining the opportunity to rejuvenate some playmakers allows for a good off-season build.

On the other side of the ball, a big blow comes with the departure of Vita Vea. Vea owned a size advantage over offensive lineman, allowing him to create a wall in the middle. This nose tackle was touted as the best in the league, which calls for the team to adapt in their line rebuild. Aside from Vea, the team returns all of their starters across the front. The linebacker core also enjoys a good boost, only having to replace one starter at an outside position. This presents an opportunity for the team to mold defensive ends and versatile players. They play owners to a deep recruiting class, which helps bump their stockpile of players on defense. The secondary also gains relief with the return of two cornerbacks who spent last season sidelined. These new faces allow the team to create different, pressurized schemes. Look for the team to lean on blitz and rush packages that helps to frazzle the opposing offense.

A strong offensive core meshed with a healthy defense creates promise for this Husky team in 2018.
