Missouri will join the sports betting party in America on Dec. 1 when the activity becomes legal within state borders, and Hard Rock Bet is poised to show the Show Me State what it has.
The Hard Rock brand of online casinos and sportsbooks will not be one of the first operators ready in Missouri on Dec. 1, but the Missouri Gaming Board (MGB) still has multiple online licenses open, and Hard Rock is sure to be a candidate for a slot in Missouri.
It has been a long process for Missouri residents to be able to make legal sports bets online and in person. The state approved sports betting in a vote in November of 2024 by a slim margin. The MGB began accepting licenses from potential Missouri sportsbooks in May and started reviewing applications in August.
Missouri will have limits on who can make online wagers. Only people 21 and up will be allowed to make wagers within the state’s borders, and there are restrictions on player prop bets in any game that features a team from any Missouri colleges. This rule is in place to help prevent any tampering with college events.
Betting in Missouri will start just in time for the NFL stretch run and college football conference championship games and bowl season. There’s also NBA and NHL regular-season action through the spring.

Moneylines
The simplest possible bet: pick a team to win. If they win, you get rewarded. If they lose, you lose your money.
Moneyline bets come with a bigger swing of odds than totals and point spreads, however. Sure, you’re convinced the Kansas City Chiefs are going to beat the Las Vegas Raiders, and the Chiefs might be 10-point favorites, but the sportsbooks also think the Chiefs will win, so your moneyline profit on a big favorite will be minimal.
However, the reverse is true if you bet on a team that is not favored to win. Pick the University of Missouri to beat Alabama in college football, and you’ll get a big profit if your pick comes true.
Spreads
Sportsbooks encourage betting on both teams in a contest by establishing what is called a spread, or a point spread. This is the number of points the favorite is expected to win by. This number is designated by a (-) minus sign. So Kansas City Chiefs -7 against the Raiders means the Chiefs are expected to win by seven points. In this case, the underdog is noted by the (+) sign, meaning that team—in this case, the Raiders +7—is getting seven points in the game.
Betting on a point spread usually comes with balanced odds. You’ll see Hard Rock list the odds for most spread bets at -110 for each side. This means that you’ll roughly double your money if the team you back wins.
If you bet on the Chiefs using our example, you only win if the Chiefs win the game by more than seven points. If the Chiefs win 20-17, they did not “cover the spread,” and fans who bet the Raiders win the wager, even though their team lost. If the Chiefs win the game by exactly seven points, it’s called a push, and the amount of your stake is returned to you.
Totals
A total is a number set by Hard Rock Bet that is based entirely on the number of points scored by the two teams combined and not the outcome. This number is usually a fraction, like 47.5, to avoid any chance of a push. Over/under odds—like point spreads—are also usually balanced around -110 on either side.
Missouri players will have the option of betting the “over,” meaning they bet that the combined points scored in the game will be more than 47.5 (using our example). Or players can bet the “under,” meaning they believe that the combined number of points will be below 47.5. If the final score of the game is 31-24, that total is 55, so it went over the total.
Parlays
A parlay is a series of bets—you can decide how many—combined into one that comes with an enhanced payout. Let’s say you want to bet on the Blues to beat the Blackhawks in NHL action on the same day the Chiefs are playing, and you want to bet on the Chiefs as well. You can combine these bets into a parlay. You only put out one wager, but the odds multiply because you’re betting on more than one event.
A parlay comes with an extended risk but also an extended reward.
SGP
SGP stands for Same Game Parlay, and will be one of the most popular sports bets in Missouri.
It functions the same as a parlay, but in this case you are making three or more bets all related to the same outcome. For example, you bet on the Chiefs to cover a 7-point spread over the Raiders, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes to throw two touchdown passes, and running back Isiah Pacheco to score a touchdown on the ground.
Each one of those bets comes with its own specific odds. In a Same Game Parlay (SGP), those odds are all combined, giving you the potential for a big payday.
Be on the lookout for profit boosts offered by Hard Rock on same-game parlays, meaning they’ll sweeten the pot on a win by 10 percent or so. Many Missouri sportsbooks will also offer parlay forgiveness, meaning if you hit on three of four SGP picks, or four out of five, you will be reimbursed your stake or possibly be given bonus bets.
Player Props

Hard Rock will also offer goal-scoring props on the Blues, where you can pick who will score that night. In football, there are anytime touchdown props, meaning you can pick a player you believe will score in the game at any time.
And just wait until we get to Super Bowl LX when there are prop bets on almost everything, from the coin flip winner, to the color of the Gatorade shower on the winning coach, to the length of the national anthem.
Future Bets
Aside from the big games on today and the weekend, Hard Rock will give Missouri players a chance to bet on the biggest events through future wagers.
