The Pick: Bears 27, Buccaneers 20

We’ll take Chicago’s ATS based on 2026 betting stats and head-to-head trends, while the Under has merit based on the Bear’s home data.

Game Betting Analysis

The biggest stand out from this game’s data is that Chicago struggles mightily on Sunday Night Football. Chicago has lost a remarkable 11 straight games when playing on a Sunday night, but even more head-scratching is that Chicago is on a current 5-0 ATS run when playing at night. The home team has won six straight meetings between Tampa Bay and Chicago, and the Bears enter this game with a very impressive 6-2 ATS mark on the season. So despite the Sunday Night Football plague that has haunted the Bears, Chicago covering seems to be the play. For those superstitious of the Sunday Night Football curse bestowed on the Bears, we move to the total which seems to point to the Under. Chicago is averaging 33.8 total points per home game this season with a 1-3 O/U mark inside Solider Field. Eight of the last nine home game for Chicago have also gone Under when facing NFC opponents.

Deciding Factor: Bears’ NFL-Leading Takeaway Machine vs. Buccaneers’ Battered Offensive Line

Chicago enters Sunday Night Football at 6-2 and as 6.5-point home favorites, built on a defense that’s been forcing turnovers at a historic rate. Through Week 7 the Bears led the NFL with 16 takeaways and a league-best +11 turnover margin, with safety Kevin Byard III tied for the league lead with four interceptions and linebacker Tremaine Edmunds continuing to be the most pick-prone linebacker in football (eight interceptions since joining Chicago in 2023). They’re also fourth in the NFL in Havoc Rate at 41.0% and have racked up 19 sacks from nine different players. That identity — get the ball out of the opposing quarterback’s hands any way possible — sets up as a nightmare matchup for a Tampa Bay team that’s been forced to rely heavily on the arm of Baker Mayfield all season.

The Buccaneers, meanwhile, bring the one weakness that could make this a long night: an offensive line that’s allowed 23 sacks through eight games, among the worst marks in the league. Left tackle Tristan Wirfs has individually graded out as PFF’s top pass-blocker in football (87.5, best of any tackle), but the group around him hasn’t held up — Mayfield was sacked 13 times in the season’s first four games alone, suffered a dislocated thumb on a hit right after releasing a pass, and has already missed time this year for the first time in his three-plus seasons in Tampa. Against a Bears front that thrives on exactly this kind of pressure-forced chaos, a line that’s struggled with protection all season is facing its toughest puzzle yet. If Chicago’s takeaway machine gets home early and forces Mayfield into the kind of rushed, inaccurate throws that have defined Tampa Bay’s roughest stretches, this could get out of hand fast at Soldier Field; but if Wirfs and the rest of the line can buy him the clean pockets he had in last week’s 16-0 shutout of Atlanta, the Bucs have enough weapons in Bucky Irving and Chris Godwin to keep this competitive.
