We also turn our attention to Pavel Dorofeyev and Robert Thomas with both players in a great position to score while locked into a battle with a pair of back lines who underwhelm in coverage. Andrei Svechnikov (Hurricanes vs. Canadiens)

Even with Seth Jarvis out of the lineup, the Carolina Hurricanes have been able to brush aside regression, hovering near the top of the board in Expected Goals For. Andrei Svechnikov has played a major role in the Hurricanes success on offense, generating 0.85 Expected Goals per game.

In a rematch of last year’s Eastern Conference Finals, Svechnikov will be able to continue to pressure the net at a high rate by attacking Montreal’s back line who ranks below league average in Expected Goals Against in All Situations. When left unprotected, Jakub Dobes has been unable to hold his ground, giving up over four Goals Against per game while averaging a Save Percentage of .862.

When in 5-on-4 Situations, the Hurricanes have leaned heavily on Svechnikov to scramble the back end, averaging over two Shots on Goal per game. With Sebastian Aho forcing the Canadiens to stretch out their coverage while weaving the puck through the middle, there will be fewer bodies between Svechnikov and the net, leading to an uptick in his total number of Shots on Goal which will improve his probability of scoring.

Pavel Dorofeyev (Rangers vs. Islanders) Goal Odds

In his first stint with the New York Rangers, Pavel Dorofeyev has been able to pick up from where he left off with the Vegas Golden Knights, averaging 0.44 Expected Goals and 3.75 Shots on Goal per game in four starts.

Heading into Tuesday night’s matchup against the New York Islanders, Dorofeyev will be able to continue to pressure the net for the full duration of his time on the ice by taking advantage of a back line who resides in the bottom ten in Expected Goals Against in 5-on-5 Play. Even with Ilya Sorokin playing at a very high level, the Rangers versatility on offense will force the Islanders goalie to consistently make quick cuts across the crease, opening up larger gaps beside him.

In the Power Play, Dorofeyev is paired with Mika Zibanejad, a dynamic threat on the opposite side who will help pull defensive attention away from him. This will create larger gaps in the middle of the defense, making it easier for Dorofeyev to convert his shot attempts into Shots on Goal.

Jimmy Snuggerud (Blues vs. Blackhawks) Goal Odds

Even when receiving minimal support from his linemates, Jimmy Snuggerud has been able to mask the St. Louis Blues lack of production on offense by generating nearly 0.50 Expected Goals per game.

In a favorable matchup against the Chicago Blackhawks, Snuggerud will have a great opportunity to score his second goal of the season by exploiting a back line who are incapable of warding off pressure in front of the net per their near dead last marks in Expected Goals Against From High Danger Shots. Especially with Spencer Knight struggling to find his footing while trying to defend the Blackhawks net, averaging 4.04 Goals Against per game.

Positive regression is also looming large over Snuggerud in the Power Play after failing to generate any pressure in 5-on-4 Situations. With Snuggerud shouldering a heavier workload, place a separate wager on the Blues forward to score the first goal as well.
