The Pick: Panthers 24, Packers 23

We’ll try the Panthers’ ATS market based on underdog and head-to-head trends, while the Under is our preferred play based on Green Bay’s data as well as head-to-head stats.

Game Betting Analysis

The data is pointing towards the Under, so that’s where we’ll lean. The Packers enter this game with a 2-5 O/U record this season, while the Panthers have also seen the Under hit in their last six road games. The Under has also hit in three of the last four meetings between both clubs, including a 16-13 win from Carolina last season as the underdog. The underdog has covered three straight meetings (all Carolina), while Green Bay has also seen the underdog cover the spread in its last four home games. So we’ll go with the Under and the underdog covering here.

Deciding Factor: Green Bay’s Surging Defense vs. Carolina’s Pressure Problem

Green Bay’s defense has been the one consistent thing about an up-and-down 4-3 season, allowing just 13.5 points per game over its last four outings with 9 sacks, 4 fumble recoveries and 7 interceptions. That unit kept the Packers competitive even in last week’s 20-17 loss to Detroit, while Jordan Love (27-of-45, 274 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT) and a newly-returned Josh Jacobs (11 carries for 36 yards, plus 5 catches for 57 yards and a touchdown) got the offense moving again after Green Bay spent the season’s first month near the bottom of the league in rushing. That defense now draws a Carolina offense that just turned the ball over three times in a disaster of a loss.

The Panthers, meanwhile, are a solid 4-2 overall, but Bryce Young was sacked five times and produced two interceptions and a lost fumble in last week’s 43-13 blowout to Tampa Bay, a game Carolina trailed 33-6 at half. It fits a real pattern, not just a bad week: Young ranks 34th in the NFL in both completion rate and catchable-ball rate when blitzed, with his numbers under pressure among the bottom 10 at the position. He’ll face that pressure now without starting left tackle Ikem Ekwonu, who is out with a knee injury, against a Packers pass rush that’s generated nine sacks in its last four games. Carolina’s own defense has a matching problem up front — it just allowed 258 rushing yards and three touchdowns to Tampa Bay at 5.3 yards a carry, right as Jacobs returns to full health on the other side. If Green Bay’s front gets the same kind of pressure on a line missing its left tackle, Young’s turnover issues could resurface fast; if Carolina’s protection holds up enough to let his strong play-action game (59.6% completion, 6th in the NFL) take over, this stays as close as the -3.5 spread suggests.
