Best Bet: U6.5 (-110) at Hard Rock Bet

Score Prediction: Rays 3, Guardians 1

The Pick: Rays 3, Guardians 1

We’ll take the Under based on head-to-head trends along with Tampa Bay’s road trends against AL Central clubs.

Game Betting Analysis

We once again abide to the Under, hitting in Games 2 and 3 for us while the data overwhelmingly supports it – hitting in nine of 11 meetings between both clubs. Tampa Bay has also seen the Under hit in its last six road games when facing the AL Central. The NRFI has also hit in a remarkable 11 of 12 meetings, so it’s fair to say limited run scoring is the way to bet this series – proving true the last two games. We’ll stay away from the ML and RL markets, murky waters so far.

Deciding Factor: Nick Martinez’s Mastery Over Cleveland vs. Guardians’ Shutdown Bullpen Formula

Nick Martinez takes the ball for Tampa Bay off a brilliant regular season (15-6, 3.10 ERA, 1.09 WHIP) and, more specifically, off a near-perfect history against this exact opponent — 13 scoreless innings across two regular-season starts against Cleveland, with the Rays winning both 1-0 and 3-0. That head-to-head track record matters because Tampa Bay’s lineup badly needs length and zeros from him after Game 3’s 13-strikeout, three-hit, one-walk collapse, in which Junior Caminero struck out four times on 11 swings — just the second four-strikeout game of his career. Yandy Díaz (.293, 22 HR, 85 RBI in the regular season) has been the lone consistent engine in October, reaching base with a hit, run or RBI in three of six playoff games, and the Rays will need him and Martinez’s command to carry a club that ranked just 12th in runs scored during the season and has scored one or zero runs in two of the last three ALCS games. The one red flag: Martinez has allowed runs in three of his last four starts overall and six earned runs across his last two outings (6⅓ innings) — a real wrinkle against his otherwise dominant Cleveland history.

The Guardians, meanwhile, aren’t naming a starter and are expected to lean on the same bullpen-game formula that’s carried them to a 2-1 series lead — Joey Cantillo in a prominent early role after a scoreless, two-walk inning in Game 1, with Tanner Bibee and Slade Cecconi behind him for bulk innings, backed by a playoff bullpen running a 2.08 ERA and a 2.08-caliber closer in Cade Smith, who struck out both Díaz and Caminero to end Game 3. Cleveland has won five of its last six playoff games after dropping the first two of the ALDS, is 7-2 in its last nine games at Progressive Field, and has gotten its offense from unexpected places — José Ramírez has reached two-plus total bases in five of his last six games, and rookie Petey Halpin has emerged as a legitimate X-factor off the bench. The concern for Cleveland is thinner margins than the bullpen ERA suggests: the Guardians ranked just 24th in the majors in runs scored this season, and they’re without Colin Holderman (wrist, 15-day IL) and Rhys Hoskins (back, 10-day IL). If the Cantillo-Bibee-Cecconi mix keeps missing bats the way it has all series and Ramírez and Halpin stay hot while Caminero remains cold, Cleveland can bury Tampa Bay in a 3-1 hole on their own turf; but if Martinez’s dominant history against this specific lineup shows up again the way it did twice in the regular season, the Rays’ deeper roster gives them a real path to even this series at two games apiece.
