Canada 2026 World Cup Team Preview, Betting Odds, Predictions & Best Bets

In 2022, a new King of Concacaf emerged — Canada, who had the best qualifying record of all the teams and looked like an intriguing dark horse before running into a surprisingly potent Group of Death. Now, as a co-host, Canada comes in to the 2026 World Cup edition of the tournament with a more manageable group stage (on paper, at least) and some home-field advantage to propel it along.

  • To Win World Cup:
  • To Reach Final:
  • To Reach Semifinal:
  • To Reach Quarterfinal:
  • To Win Group B:
  • To Advance From Group:
  • Group: Group B
  • FIFA Rank: 30

Though Canada hasn’t been quite as battle-tested as it was four years ago, given that they’re automatically qualified this time around, they’ve still faced international competition, and some of the results haven’t inspired great confidence. Most notably, in last year’s Gold Cup, they suffered a quarterfinal exit against Guatemala — which, despite a fantastic tournament showing, is still just the 96th best team in the world per FIFA’s current rankings.

However, they’re still an immensely talented team, and after decades of relatively obscurity, Canada remains one of the better teams in Concacaf, and playing under Jesse Marsch gives them an edgy pragmatism at the heart of their collective identity. Among their recent friendly results are 0-0 draws to France, Colombia, Ecuador, and most recently, Tunisia.

They’ll also play all three group stage matches in Canada, with the opener in an expanded BMO Field and the remaining two in BC Place.

Canada 2026 World Cup Best Bet

Though Canada is pegged to finish second behind Switzerland per the oddsmakers, it’s absolutely conceivable that Les Rouges could win this group. There’s extra incentive to do so, as the Group B winner gets two more matches in Vancouver before being slotted to the quarterfinals in Kansas City (should they progress that far), whereas the Group B runner-up plays in L.A. (Plus, the Group B winner plays a third-place team, where as the Group B second-place team likely plays one of Brazil or Morocco.)

Best Bet: Canada to Win Group B

Canada 2026 World Cup Players to Watch

Alphonso Davies: He’s nursing an injured hamstring that’s shut him down for the remainder of the Bayern Munich season, with a timetable that gets him back on the field just in time for group stage play. He’s one of the most electric wingbacks in the world, and he’s essential to how Canada likes to play.

Jonathan David: Also grappling with injury, David has put up solid but not spectacular numbers in his first season with Juventus after dominating Ligue 1 at Lille. He’s still the most reliable scorer on the Canada squad, and his recent brace (with both goals from the penalty spot) helped his team salvage a draw after going down early to Iceland.

Tajon Buchanan: The former New England Revolution standout has enjoyed a sold second season at Villarreal, and he leads an impressive crew of wingers which remains one of Les Rouges’ strengths.

Canada World Cup History

2022 was a momentous year for Canada; it was the first trip to the World Cup since 1986, when Canada debuted in the tournament after failing to qualify in six different previous attempts. Canada has yet to get a draw let alone a win in its six overall matches, though in their ‘22 debut in Qatar, Davies had a missed penalty kick in the 10th minute that would have given his team an early lead over Belgium (and perhaps changed their whole tournament trajectory).
