Thursday Night Football: Cincinnati Bengals vs Cleveland Browns (44)
Both the Cleveland Browns and the Cincinnati Bengals have started their 2020 NFL season with a loss. The Bengals fell to the Los Angeles Chargers 16-13 despite a last-second effort and the Cleveland Browns were run out Baltimore by the Ravens 38-6.
While neither team had much offensive success in Week 1, that should change in Week 2. Cincinnati rookie quarterback Joe Burrow finally got his feet wet and had a respectable debut. Burrow was 23/36 for 193 yards and one interception against an underrated Chargers’ defense. He also added eight rushes for 46 yards and a touchdown, showing he can be a threat on the ground as well.
For Cleveland, their offense struggled to put points on the board thanks to three turnovers. Otherwise, the Browns would have likely had a decent performance against the Ravens. The Browns had over 300 yards of offense against a very good Ravens’ defense. On the ground, both Kareem Hunt and Nick Chubb had solid games. Hunt averaged 5.5 yards per carry while Chubb averaged an even six.
After a rusty Week 1 (thanks to limited training camp and no preseason), we should expect a better performance from each offense in Week 2 as they go up against softer defenses as well. Burrow has plenty of weapons in that Cincinnati offense and Browns’ quarterback Baker Mayfield does as well.
With the offensive talent that each team posses, we could see a high-scoring game on Thursday Night. With a total of 44, six touchdowns and a field goal would get the Over to cover. Three touchdowns from each team seem very likely with at least another field goal mixed in somewhere as well. Don’t let poor Week 1 performances against solid defenses deter you, there should be plenty of points in this game. Either team could pull off the victory, making the total the safer play.
Pick: Over 44 Points
