Josh Allen remains the clear MVP favorite entering Week 6, sitting at +250 on DraftKings, comfortably ahead of Brock Purdy (+300) and Patrick Mahomes (+650). He backed it up in dramatic fashion Monday night, racking up 210 passing yards, 121 rushing yards, and the game-tying touchdown on a fourth-quarter goal-line sneak as Buffalo outlasted the Rams 37-34 in overtime at SoFi Stadium. The win pushed the Bills to 4-1 and dropped Stafford’s Rams to 2-3, and with Allen now producing at an elite level through the air and on the ground even in a game where Buffalo had just 185 total yards through three quarters, there’s little reason to look past him as the favorite heading into Week 6.

Stafford has been up and down statistically for a 2-3 Rams team, throwing for 1,572 yards with 9 touchdowns but also 6 interceptions through five games, though the case for him leans more on the Rams’ Super Bowl-contender ceiling. Young is the more interesting story: he’s completing 62.3% of his throws for over 280 yards in every game this season, with 9 touchdowns against just 2 interceptions and a 100.0 passer rating for a 2-2 Panthers team that just beat Detroit, and while it’s still early for serious MVP buzz, the efficiency and command he’s shown make him the sleeper with real helium if Carolina keeps winning.

How Is the NFL MVP Winner Determined?
The AP NFL MVP is decided by a panel of 50 media members who cover the NFL. Since 2022, each voter ranks their top five players. The first-place choice receives 10 points, followed by 5 points for second, 3 for third, 2 for fourth, and 1 for fifth. The player with the most points wins the award.
The award has been shared twice in its history. Brett Favre and Barry Sanders were named co-MVPs in 1997, while Peyton Manning and Steve McNair shared the award in 2003.
Quarterbacks have won the vast majority of AP NFL MVP awards. The only defensive players to win are Alan Page in 1971 and Lawrence Taylor in 1986. Kicker Mark Moseley also won the award in 1982, while the most recent non-quarterback winner was running back Adrian Peterson in 2012.
