The 2026 BMW Championship is officially underway, with Bellerive Country Club expected playing like a softer, more scorable version of what we saw 8 years ago at the 2018 PGA Championship.

It’s a logjam at the top after one round, with five players – Rory McIlroy, Chris Gotterup, Wyndham Clark, JJ Spaun, and Gary Woodland – each holding a share of the lead at 6-under-par. Spaun aside, that paints a very clear picture of what we expected coming in, as pure bombers have been able to separate on this long par-70 course.

Looking ahead, we have new data at our disposal to adjust our approach in DFS formats before Round 2 gets underway on Friday. Conditions were wet from overnight rain on Thursday, but the course will continue to get firmer as the week goes on. Ahead, we’ll look to identify the players who have shown they are most due for a Round 2 breakout.

Take a look at some of the best pillar players for the 2026 BMW Championship DFS contests and live betting opportunities.

DraftKings Showdown Golf Strategy

DraftKings Golf Showdown Golf is a one-round Daily Fantasy format in which players aim to construct the best-scoring one-round lineup while staying within the allotted salary cap. To identify value in Golf Showdown, it’s typically best to focus on buy-low opportunities on players who’ve shown uncharacteristically poor putting in the prior round. There is also an opportunity to find leverage by identifying favorable weather splits and players who are more likely to card birdies-or-better.

Round 2 BMW Championship Showdown Pillar Plays

As expected, ball-striking form and sheer distance have prevailed thus far at Bellerive Country Club. Unlike last week at TPC Southwind, distance is a huge asset here, especially for elite Total Drivers who can consistently pull short-iron approaches from the fairway into these receptive greens. Likewise, it is the most skilled approach players who stand the best opportunity to generate birdie opportunities here. Looking ahead, it is going to take a combination of driving distance, elite iron play, and a streaky putter to go low at Bellerive Country Club.

Identifying value players who check each of these boxes can provide valuable bonus points in the DraftKings Showdown format. The three players below will be foundational plays in my Round 2 Showdown lineups for these reasons.

Wyndham Clark ($8,800)

I was bullish on Clark’s value leading into this week, and see no reason to hop off the bandwagon now after jumping out to a share of the lead at 6-under-par through his opening round. Everything was clicking for Wyndham on Thursday, as he hit 13 of 14 fairways and ranked top-13 across all four strokes gained categories.

Clark’s post-round remarks were both insightful and encouraging, noting that he left Memphis feeling great confidence in his driver, and feeling especially confident in his ability to score at Bellerive when playing out of the fairway. Bellerive plays like a traditional U.S. Open venue, as evidenced by Brooks Koepka’s win here in 2018, and the fact that four of the five current co-leaders are former U.S. champions. That should be music to the ears of Clark, who has won two U.S. Opens over the last four years.

Michael Thorbjornsen ($7,900)

Distance is always an advantage to have in the modern game, but Bellerive is a course that especially rewards players who are able to generate a high volume of high-lofted, short-iron approaches into these greens. Thorbjorsen is a sensible course fit for Bellerive, profiling as one of the longest drivers on Tour, and coming in with newfound confidence, fresh off of his first career PGA Tour win two starts ago at the Rocket Classic.

He battled an illness at last week’s FedEx St Jude Championship, but that appears to be behind him now after an impressive opening round of 4-under-par. He ranked top-10 in Driving Distance, Driving Accuracy, SG: Approach, and SG: APP. His putting was middle-of-the-pack on Thursday, but if he continues to sustain this elite ball-striking form, he will be a major threat to win the 2026 BMW Championship.

Gary Woodland ($6,900)

A hole-out eagle from 100 yards away certainly helps, but Woodland’s approach performance on Thursday was one for the record books. He gained a total of 4.59 strokes on approach, a full 2 strokes better than the next closest player in the field. If we know one thing about Bellerive from past tournaments here, it is that trending approach form and driving distance are pre-requisites, and Woodland is passing that test with flying colors.

Always a threat on long, driver-heavy courses that require precise ball-striking, Woodland has jumped out to a share of the lead at 6-under-par, ranking 1st in SG: APP, SG: T2G, and SG: Ball Striking. He hasn’t been able to get much out of his putter yet, and that’s a scary proposition for such a proven ball-striker who already finds himself atop the leaderboard.

Live Bets To Consider Entering Round 2

Round 2 Matchup: Jake Knapp over Alex Noren

Best Available odds: -128

Distance and long-iron approach play are the two factors of premium importance at Bellerive Country Club. Those happen to be the two greatest strengths of Jake Knapp’s game, and by contrast, the two weakest areas of Noren’s. That came to pass in the opening round, where Knapp bested Noren by four strokes. It’s not to say that Noren’s game cannot translate on this setup, but Knapp certainly has the upper hand, given the course profile fit. Having not fully unlocked his putter yet either, I believe better results may still be to come for Knapp in round 2.

Leader After Round 2: Gary Woodland

Best Available odds: +800

It is a logjam up top, with 10+ players fully capable of holding the lead end of day Friday. From a value perspective, it’s interesting to see Woodland carry the longest odds amongst those tied for first, as he’s made it to the top in the most sustainable of ways, leading the field in SG: T2G. While not the best putter in this field, I still believe he is due for a better showing on the greens in round 2, as he has been a positive putter in four of his last five starts.

Best of luck with your BMW Championship DFS lineups and bets!
