Top TD Picks: Chris Rodriguez Jr. & Parker Washington
We’re all set for an AFC matchup in Week 9 Thursday Night Football between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Baltimore Ravens. The Jaguars are coming off a blowout win over the Indianapolis Colts, while the Ravens are in a disastrous situation after both Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley were placed on injured reserve following their loss vs. the Buffalo Bills. That leaves third-string rookie Joe Fagnano to start for them at quarterback, which is bad news against a tough Jaguars defense.

In every other version of this column, I’ve targeted one player on each team to score a touchdown. But in this case, I’m going with two Jaguars. Why? Simply because there’s a legit chance that the Ravens don’t score a single touchdown here. As always, be sure to check out our NFL betting trends page for data and odds on every game.
Chris Rodriguez Jr. Touchdown Odds
The Jaguars are 10-point favorites in this matchup against the Ravens. That means that there’s a legit chance that it could turn into a blowout, which means more rushing volume for Chris Rodriguez Jr. On top of that, Bhayshul Tuten is a game-time decision with an ankle issue. If Tuten is out, Rodriguez could see 18-20 carries in this game. But even if Tuten plays, there’s a chance that he’ll be limited, especially on a short week, adding more appeal to Rodriguez.
Jacksonville has a 26-point implied total, so they’re projected to score 3-4 touchdowns here. One of Rodriguez’s main strengths as a runner is to break tackles and get tough yards up the middle. He’s ideal for the red zone, which is why he’s my favorite pick to score a touchdown here. While there has been significant odds movement on Rodriguez due to Tuten’s injury, he’s still worth a look in this spot.
Rodriguez is averaging 4.6 yards per carry with three touchdowns, so he’s been quite efficient this year. We’ll take him at around -105 odds at the time of this article.
Parker Washington Touchdown Odds
Parker Washington is having a terrific season for the Jaguars, catching 27-of-48 targets for 432 yards and four touchdowns. However, he’s had a couple of duds recently, putting up 16 yards or fewer in two of his last four games. Facing a Ravens defense that should be on the field often, given their struggles on offense, Washington should have plenty of opportunities to put up yardage and potentially a touchdown in this one.
We just saw DJ Moore put up four catches for 82 yards and a touchdown against this defense. As the clear-cut No. 1 wideout for the Jaguars, this could turn into a spike week for Washington. We’ve seen him put up big numbers at times this year, including 124 yards and two touchdowns against the Eagles.
You can get Washington at +140 odds at the time of this article, which is an appealing price considering he’s the top target for Trevor Lawrence.
