Max Fried – NYY/SP ($8,500)
We’re going with Max Fried, who is a bit underpriced at $8,500. It’s a must-win game for the Yankees as they try to avoid the sweep. Look for a strong outing from Fried here. He put up an impressive 2.80 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP in 112.2 innings this season. He also tossed six innings of three-hit, one-run ball in the win over the Red Sox in the AL Wild Card series.
Fried combined for 14.2 innings and seven runs allowed in two starts vs. the Rays this season.
Foster Griffin – CLE/SP ($8,000)
Foster Griffin was a nice surprise this season, registering a 3.60 ERA in 172.2 innings. However, he struggled when he got dealt to the Guardians, putting up a 5.19 ERA and 1.62 WHIP in 43.1 innings.
It’s worth noting that Griffin dominated the White Sox while with the Nationals in an April 26th start, tossing seven scoreless innings. We’ll take a chance that he can rediscover that form here.
Austin Wells – NYY/C ($2,200)
Austin Wells provides salary relief at catcher. While he’s a major drain on batting average, he still has some power, homering 14 times in 334 at-bats.
Wells is swinging the bat well right now, hitting safely in four consecutive games, including four RBI. He allows us to jam in some higher-priced bats.
Ben Rice – NYY/1B ($5,900)
Ben Rice had a monster season for the Yankees, slashing .264/.363/.534 with 41 home runs in 573 at-bats. He has been carrying the Yankees throughout the playoffs, homering four times so far.
With the Bronx Bombers on the brink of elimination, look for Rice to continue to get it done here. It’s an exploitable matchup against Rays’ right-hander Nick Martinez.
Ozzie Albies – ATL/2B ($3,500)
Ozzie Albies was underwhelming this season, slashing .237/.293/.392 with 22 home runs in 615 at-bats. However, he’s been a bit better in the playoffs, hitting safely in four of five games.
Albies is entrenched in the cleanup spot for the Braves, putting him in a position to rack up counting stats.
Junior Caminero – TB/3B ($5,600)
Junior Caminero carried the Rays’ offense this year, batting .276 with 42 home runs in 616 at-bats.
However, it’s been a quiet postseason so far, as Caminero has gone 2-for-6 with one run. Perhaps he can go yard in a much more hitter-friendly environment at Yankee Stadium. He’s worth paying a premium for here.
Bryan Rocchio – CLE/SS ($3,200)
Bryan Rocchio provides salary relief at shortstop. He had a bit of a power surge this season, hitting 15 home runs with a .253 batting average in 534 at-bats.
While he’s gone 0-for-5 in the playoffs so far, we saw him homer twice in his game before that. We’re trying to hit it big on a cheap dart throw here. Plus, the pitching matchup isn’t one to fear against the White Sox bullpen.
Kyle Tucker – LAD/OF ($4,700)
Kyle Tucker has been one of the biggest disappointments in baseball this season, but he’s been a lot better during the playoffs. We saw him homer in Game 1 against the Braves.
This came after he hit seven of his 17 home runs in September. Perhaps Tucker has found his swing, making him worth a look here.
Teoscar Hernandez – LAD/OF ($4,300)
We’ll add Teoscar Hernandez to pair with Tucker. The veteran outfielder also homered in Game 1, so he’s coming into this one in nice form.
We saw him homer 16 times in 442 at-bats this year, so there’s still 25+ homer power here. Since he hits next to Tucker in the lineup, this is the ideal pairing against the Braves bullpen.
Chase DeLauter – CLE/OF ($3,700)
Chase DeLauter had an excellent rookie season, hitting .287 with 16 homers and 11 steals in 495 at-bats. That’s the kind of power and speed that you love to get at a sub-$4K price.
DeLauter is coming off a two-hit game in Game 2 against the White Sox, so perhaps he’s finding his groove. The price is too good to pass up vs. the White Sox in a bullpen game here.
