After an exciting  MLB Playoffs, we’re ready for the start of the Fall Classic on Friday night. The Brewers and Rays will do battle in a clash of teams that finished with the top (Milwaukee) and third-best (Tampa Bay) records in baseball during the regular season.

Both teams play with excellent fundamentals and boast some lights-out pitching, setting the stage for what should be a nip-and-tuck series.

Best MLB World Series Player Props

  • Jacob Misiorowski Over 15.5 Outs Recorded
  • Jackson Chourio Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBI

Jacob Misiorowski (Brewers vs. Rays) Over Outs Recorded

The Brewers will fittingly hand the ball to their ace to open the World Series, and the fireballing Misiorowski’s rocket right arm should be particularly lively considering he last took the mound Oct. 11 in the NLCS against the Dodgers. Misiorowski’s two-outing postseason has been solid but not up to his usual lofty standards, as he’s gone just 8.1 total innings and allowed three earned runs on nine hits.

Nevertheless, he’s recorded 11 strikeouts over that span as well and hasn’t given up a home run. With plenty of rest and no more postseason series to worry about past this one, however, we should see Misiorowski get a bit more runway in terms of pitch count. He’s also pitching at home, where he posted an 8-1 record, 1.52 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 13.7 K/9 across 95 innings during the regular season.

Current Rays hitters have a collective .208 average and .269 OBP in a modest sample of 26 career plate appearances against the righty, which further supports the notion of a stint of at least 5.1 innings for him on the mound. Misiorowski eclipsed 15.5 outs in 22 of 30 starts during the regular season as well and finished right on the hook with 15 outs on five more occasions, underscoring how rare it was for him to miss the mark.

Jackson Chourio (Brewers vs. Rays) Over Hits + Runs + RBI

We’re going with an all-Brewers prop selection for Game 1 and honing in on Chourio, who’s due for a bit of a postseason breakout after mostly slumping over the first two rounds. The slugger was a force during the regular season, compiling a career-best .291 average and .838 OPS while racking up 52 extra-base hits, including a career-high 25 homers. He also averaged an impressive 2.5 hits + runs + RBI during the regular season, including 2.7 per home game.

In contrast, Chourio’s postseason has been middling at best. He’s coming into Game 1 with a .171 average and .553 OPS over 36 plate appearances so far, with only a couple of homers keeping things from being a total washout. Considering his stellar body of work during the regular season, however, Chourio is bound for some positive regression, and he could start making some inroads in that department despite a relatively tough matchup against Nick Martinez and the Rays ‘pen.

Chourio was outstanding at home in same-handed matchups during the regular season, lighting righties up for a .320 average, .937 OPS and .406 wOBA. He had a formidable 9.4% walk rate in that split as well, and 17 of his 38 hits in the sample went for extra bases. Finally, it doesn’t hurt that the three pitches Martinez utilizes most against right-handed bats – the sinker, cutter and changeup – are offerings that Chourio boasted respective .358, .364 and .368 wOBAs against during the regular season.
