The injury buildup to Week 6 has been dominated by the NFL’s most important position: the quarterback. Injuries to Caleb Williams and Lamar Jackson have jeopardized the Chicago Bears’ and Baltimore Ravens’ seasons, but both have stood strong in the face of adversity while more troubling news concerns Jalen Hurts.

The Bears’ franchise quarterback is likely suiting up in Week 6, while Jackson’s status is a little more complicated and Hurts being out for an undisclosed time period. Who else shows up on the injury report in Week 6?

Caleb Williams (Bears vs. Falcons): Probable

The Chicago Bears have been fighting hard without quarterback Caleb Williams. Williams has missed the last three games with a hamstring injury, and in that time, the Bears have gone 2-1, with their sole loss coming against the Green Bay Packers in Week 5 in a 31-7 blowout loss. The Bears have made do with Case Keenum and Tyson Bagent under center, but they need Williams back if they’re to challenge for a Super Bowl. Thankfully, that day seems close. Williams has logged full practices for the Bears ahead of their Week 6 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons, and the chances of him taking to the field for the first time since Week 2 seem high. The benefits to having their franchise quarterback on the field are obvious. Williams looked like he was in position to take another leap after a sensational Week 1 performance against the Panthers before being held down by the Vikings in Week 2. He gives the Bears’ offense a limitless ceiling.

Brock Bowers (Raiders vs. Bills): Probable

The Las Vegas Raiders have made a habit of limiting tight end Brock Bowers’ workload at practice. The former first-round pick has been an integral part of the Raiders’ offense in their surprising 3-2 start to the season. Bowers has 24 catches for 312 yards and three touchdowns in three games, and looks as good as ever in 2026. Keeping him fresh and healthy is key for the Raiders, though, if they have ambitions on making a push for the postseason. Bowers (knee) was a surprising inclusion to the Raiders’ injury report on Wednesday, but was still a limited participant. The Raiders face a tough test against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, and though he’s currently limited, Bowers should be ready to rock again.

Joey Porter, Jr. (Cowboys vs. Packers): Probable

Joey Porter Jr. hasn’t had an easy go of it in his first few weeks with the Dallas Cowboys. The former Steeler has played in just one game since being traded earlier in the season, in the 34-30 win against the Houston Texans in Week 4. He was ruled out of the Week 5 loss to the Buccaneers at short notice after suffering an illness, and has now shown up limited in practice early this week. However, Porter and the Cowboys expect to see the former second-round pick on the field against the Green Bay Packers in Week 6, making a sizable impact. That’s why the Cowboys, who rate Porter so highly, traded for him in the first place. The defense has struggled mightily in 2026, and is ranked rock bottom in EPA per play allowed, per Sümer Sports, and needs help on the back end. Having Porter back in the lineup after his illness is a step in the right direction.

Nick Bosa (49ers vs. Commanders): Questionable

The San Francisco 49ers are arguably the best team in football. They’re 5-0 and have just knocked off the Super Bowl champions on the road in Week 5—and they’ve done it without one of their best players, edge rusher Nick Bosa. The former Defensive Player of the Year missed most of the 2025 season with a torn ACL and looked ready to go in 2026, but has been limited to just two games and hasn’t been seen since Week 2 while tending a calf injury. Bosa’s absence has been a big loss, but the 49ers’ defense is fifth in EPA per play allowed, per Sumer Sports. They’ve been excellent without Bosa, but are still only pressuring quarterbacks at a rate of 37.7%, 23rd in the NFL. The good news is that Kyle Shanahan believes Bosa could be ready to go against the Washington Commanders on Monday night. What a proposition for one of the top-performing defenses in the NFL to get an elite pass-rusher back on the field.

Ladd McConkey (Chargers vs. Chiefs): Questionable

At the other end of the totem pole to the San Francisco 49ers are the 0-5 Los Angeles Chargers, whose capitulation seems to know no bounds this season. Offense? Bad. Defense? Bad. Special teams? Bad. There’s no real silver lining on the horizon for the Chargers. To make matters worse, there’s a chance Ladd McConkey (foot) could be missing against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 6. McConkey entered Week 5 with a questionable designation but still suited up in the 23-17 loss to the Denver Broncos. Despite that, McConkey never actually saw the field, which remains a curious sequence of events. What happens now is anyone’s guess. Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh said McConkey will continue working his way back in practice this week, but for now, his status for Sunday remains questionable. Given how banged up the Chargers’ receiver corps is, and how poorly the offense is playing overall, McConkey is a vital need.

Monroe Freeling (Panthers vs. Eagles): Questionable

The Carolina Panthers have been an exciting team to watch in 2026. The offense is eighth in EPA per play, and former first overall pick quarterback Bryce Young has shown a noticeable amount of improvement in his fourth season in the NFL. One thing that could hold the offense back, though, is the rate at which Young is being pressured. The Panthers allow the highest pressure rate in the NFL through five weeks at 51.7%, but could be in a worse position in Week 6 post-bye if rookie tackle Monroe Freeling is ruled out. Freeling suffered a knee injury in the third quarter of the Panthers’ Week 4 win against the Detroit Lions, but the Panthers are hopeful that their 2026 first-round pick can be back on the field against the Eagles in Week 6. Freeling’s 6.2% pressure rate is the second-lowest on the team, and while Taylor Moton is still out, he’s expected to be the team’s starting right tackle. If he’s not on the field, that duty falls to veteran tackle Stone Forsythe, who allowed two pressures in 16 pass-blocking snaps.

Carson Schwesinger (Browns vs. Ravens): Doubtful

The Cleveland Browns have exceeded a lot of expectations set upon them in 2026 already, and a large reason for that is how well the defense continues to perform even without long-term star Myles Garrett. Second-year linebacker Carson Schwesinger continues to look like one of the best linebackers in the league already, with 43 tackles and one sack through five games. However, the former 33rd overall pick in 2025 sustained a Grade 1 right ankle sprain during the Browns’ 17-12 loss to the Jets in Week 5, and has been spotted in a walking boot to start the week. That could be precautionary, but the signs aren’t good. Schwesinger is a lynchpin of the defense and without him, the Browns have a sizable hole in the middle of the defense. The list of linebackers better than Schwesinger is shrinking. Fast.

Jalen Hurts (Eagles vs. Panthers): OUT

The Philadelphia Eagles have been teetering on the edge of the cliff for the last few weeks, but just got handed a major blow on Thursday afternoon. Franchise quarterback Jalen Hurts was ruled out of Week 6 with a superficial blood clot in his leg, an injury that requires immediate treatment. It’s hard right now to get a real idea of how long Hurts will be out for, but the realistic expectation is that it’ll be more than one week. However, putting a number on it right now is likely impossible. It’s the unwanted icing on the disaster cake for the Eagles, though, and it means they’ll have to turn to Tanner McKee to start against the Panthers in Week 6. McKee has played in just six games in his NFL career, starting two, completing 61.7% of his passes for 597 yards, five touchdowns, and an interception. McKee has a lot of fans across the league, but starting in a pinch this early in the season—on a downtrodden Eagles’ offense, no less—is a tall order.

Jalen Pitre (Texans vs. Jaguars): Doubtful

Another defensive player who remains a key part of what his unit does is Texans’ safety, Jalen Pitre. The hard-hitting safety can play in the box, around the line of scrimmage as a blitzer, or in coverage. The Texans’ defense is just 16th in EPA per play allowed in 2026, but is showing signs of improvement—which should be a given, taking into account the talent on the defense. The Texans will unfortunately be without Pitre for their trip to London against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 6, having already ruled out the safety with a shoulder injury that he suffered in Week 5. The injury won’t land Pitre on IR, but replacing him in the short term is a hard task. Pitre has been excellent in the slot for the Texans, and it could be up to fifth-round rookie Kamari Ramsey to step into his role.
