To round out the card, we turn our attention toward Evan Bouchard and Jack Roslovic with both productive players facing off against a pair of back lines that struggle in coverage. If you have not already, check out our NHL betting trends page for the latest daily game odds, insight, and data.

Alex Tuch (Capitals vs. Flyers) Goal Odds

With Alex Ovechkin steadily regressing while in the twilight years of his career, Alex Tuch has been able to keep the Washington Capitals competitive on offense, leading the team in Expected Goals with an average of 0.47 per game.

In a favorable matchup against the Philadelphia Flyers, Tuch will be able to continue to pressure the net at a consistent rate by attacking a back line that resides near the bottom of the board in Expected Goals Against in All Situations. Even with Joseph Woll playing at a high level, Philadelphia’s back line will be playing on the second half of a back-to-back, leading to sluggish movements which will leave the Flyers goalie uncovered when they are unable to properly shift their coverage.

When in the Power Play, Tuch shoulders a heavier workload while running the Capitals second line, leading to an uptick in his usage rate. With the Flyers struggling to keep a body on Tuch’s hip, the Capitals forward will be able to anchor in the middle of their stretched out coverage and generate high quality shot attempts for the full duration of the contest.

Evan Bouchard (Oilers vs. Flames) Goal Odds

While Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl pull defensive attention away from him, Evan Bouchard has been able to convert his shot attempts into Shots on Goal from the blue line at a high rate, averaging three per game.

Heading into Wednesday night’s contest against the Calgary Flames, Bouchard will be able to continue to rifle off shot attempts from a distance by weaving the puck through a back line that struggles to defend the net per their below league average mark in Expected Goals Against From Low Danger Shots. McDavid and Drasital’s presence will also force Devin Cooley to scramble across the crease, creating wider shooting lanes for Bouchard to exploit.

In 5-on-4 Situations, McDavid joins Bouchard in the back line, allowing the Oilers defenseman to crash down on the opposite side when a lane opens up. When isolated, the quality of Bouchard’s Shots on Goal will improve, making it difficult to wall them off.

Jack Roslovic (Maple Leafs vs. Kraken) Goal Odds

In his first year with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Jack Roslovic has been able to make an immediate impact, averaging 0.27 Expected Goals while generating 2.71 Shots on Goal per game.

With Kirill Marchenko potentially sitting out with an injury, Roslovic will have a great opportunity to build on his momentum against the Seattle Kraken by ambushing a back line that ranks near dead last in Expected Goals Against in 5-on-5 Play. Philipp Grubauer has also steadily regressed after a hot start to the year, giving up more than three Goals Against per game in his last three starts while averaging a Save Percentage of .893.

If Marchenko sits out, Roslovic will potentially replace him in the Maple Leafs first Power Play unit, joining Auston Matthews, William Nylander, and Gavin McKenna. With the trio forcing the Kraken to stretch out in coverage, Roslovic will be able to generate a higher volume of Shots on Goal in front of the net, increasing his chances of scoring.
