To pair with Hagel, we also add Sidney Crosby and Tyler Senguin to our cards with both forwards facing off against a pair of back lines who struggle to defend their net. If you have not already, check out our NHL betting trends page for the latest daily game odds, insight, and data.
Brandon Hagel (Lightning vs. Flyers) Goal Odds
After playing at a very high level on defense last year, the Philadelphia Flyers back line have fallen hard back down to reality this season, ranking dead last in Expected Goals Against in All Situations and in 5-on-5 Play.
The Flyers regression on defense bodes well for Brandon Hagel who has been able to pressure the net at a high rate since the start of the regular season, leading the Tampa Bay Lightning in Expected Goals with an average 0.64 in two outings. Especially with Dan Vlader struggling to mask the Flyers back line with his production in net, averaging 7.04 Goals Against per game and a .816 Save Percentage.
When in the Power Play, Hagel is joined by Jake Guentzel, Brayden Point, and Nikita Kucherov, a formidable trio who is capable of scoring in the blink of an eye. With the Flyers forced to stretch out their coverage in an attempt to keep a defender near the puck, the width of Hagel’s shooting lanes from the blue line will widen, increasing his chances of converting his shot attempts into Shots on Goal.
Sidney Crosby (Penguins vs. Jets) Goal Odds
Even in the tail end of his career, Sidney Crosby has been able to keep pace with the competition, generating 0.28 Expected Goals while averaging 2.50 Shots on Goal per game.
In a favorable matchup against the Winnipeg Jets, the Pittsburgh Penguins future hall of famer will be able to operate in front of the crease for the full duration of the contest by exploiting a back line who resides in the bottom half of the board in Expected Goals Against From High Danger Shots. Stuart Skinner has also been unable to fill in for Connor Hellebuyck who is currently serving a suspension, averaging nearly four Goals Against per game.
Positive regression is also looming large over Crosby in 5-on-4 Situations after generating just 0.05 Expected Goals in the first unit, improving his probability of scoring. To help diversify your risk, place a separate smaller wager on Crosby to score the first goal as well.
Tyler Seguin (Stars vs. Sharks) Goal Odds
Even with the rest of the Dallas Stars struggling to find their footing, Tyler Seguin has been able to quickly round back into form in his first two games back from a torn ACL, kicking off his 2026-27 campaign with an average of 0.38 Expected Goals per game.
Heading into Monday night’s contest against the San Jose Sharks, Seguin will be able to light the lamp by taking advantage of a back line who ranks in the bottom five in Expected Goals Against in All Situations. The production Seguin receives from his linemates will also help widen the width of his shooting lanes on the outside, making it difficult for Yaroslav Askarov to wall them off who is currently averaging a Save Percentage of .885.
In the Power Play, Seguin is the focal point of the Stars second unit, leading to a bump in his usage rate. With his workload unscathed, expect Seguin to build on his momentum and score his first goal of the season.
